This a another excellent episode. It seems as if the writers were going for a slightly more darker storyline, compared to earlier episodes.

I selected "flashback episode" as classification as we learn a lot of new information about Lou. In fact, I don't think there's been another episode in which she featured so prominently. It meant getting to know her character and her background better.

The relationshop between Jake and Diane is still evolving and has been for three episodes now, a nice little story arc. An interesting development, as was the idea of adding some competition for Jake by introducing a new team member.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • During Lou's flashback, all of the soldiers are in conventional green camouflage, and Lou is in all-black. Why would you wear green camouflage or all-black in the winter? They should have been wearing snow camouflage.

    • Ben says that Jake is "Alan Shepard, the first American to orbit the earth". While Alan Shepard was the first American in space, he only did a sub-orbital flight - John Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth.

    • Several problems with the retinal scanner that kills Agent Ben Wilton:
      * If it was "no longer biometric" but "infrared", why are we able to see it?
      * Lasers (such as those used in retinal scanners) only emit light of a given frequency. Even if "the normal feed bypassed the light intensity monitors", you would get brighter light, not different coloured light. Ben Wilton would be blind, not dead.

    • When Deputy Director Beckett announces that Agent Ben Wilton is arriving, since he approaches from a corridor at a right angle to where they are standing, she must be able to see around corners.

    • The photos supposedly received from the spy satellite that identify Alex Brandt in the prison camp are taken from a point a little above eye-level. Spy satellites can only look straight down, and they orbit higher than 10 feet above the ground.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Diane: (to a comatose Jake) Did you just make me a cup of coffee? (pause) Okay, yeah. I'm officially crazy. I'm just gonna go and try not to be crazy anymore.

    • Diane: (discussing Jake) I mean, he's only been an agent for six months. He still gets his badge tangled on things.

    • Jake: So.. er... been busy?
      Diane: Yeah. Yeah. Yourself?
Jake: Yeah. Same old. Ran away. Had a shoot to kill order out on me. Almost slept with my best... colleague. (pause) Had a nice Ethiopian meal.
Diane: Well, you have been busy.

    • Ben Wilton: Well, listen. I just want you to know right out of the gate, you are Alan Shepard.
      Jake: The astronaut?
Ben Wilton: The first American astronaut to orbit the earth. And if I am fortunate enough to follow in your shoes, it will always be just that... following in your shoe.
Jake: Oh, well, I guess that's true.

    • Jake: Diane? Men's room. What are you doing?
      Diane: We have to talk.
Jake: Okay. Okay...look. I've been thinking about this a lot and that kiss was well, I know things were crazy, but I meant it. You're beautiful. But I keep coming back to the fact that we work together and it's the NSA and I think that we both understand that we just can't. Uh, what?
Diane: Oh. (weak chuckle) I didn't come into the bathroom to talk about that.
Jake: Oh. Then, uh, why did you...?
Diane: It's just I think that, um, you need to do something about...the new guy.
      Jake: Ben?
      Diane: Yes.
Jake: Ben, super agent with his own video? I thought you liked him.
Diane: Yes, I do. Who wouldn't? I mean he's fantastic, he's brilliant, and he's a soldier. That's why you have to prove that you are better than he is, Jake. You have cutting-edge technology inside you, but you are only valuable as long as you stay ahead of the competition. If they decide to upgrade someone like Ben , then you are obsolete...overnight. (softly) You really think I'm beautiful?

    • Jake: Well, this is exciting. It's not every day our little team gets a new member. Were we going to tell me or were you just going to wait till I pick up my coffee cup one day that says "Property of Ben-whatever his name is."
Kyle: His name is Wilton. He's a very competent agent.
Jake: Good. I wouldn't want to be replaced by an incompetent one.

    • Jake: Did you know there's a brand new coffee shop just down the street?
Diane: Yeah. And pay three bucks for an espresso when I can have a fresh one right here. Forget it.
(Diane presses the button on the machine. Nothing happens.)
Diane: Where exactly is this new place?
