Show Summary

Comedy double act French & Saunders produced Jam and Jerusalem for the BBC. It was known under the name Clatterford in some international airings. When the show originally aired in the UK on BBC One, it aired in the 9.30pm Friday slot, however for series two, it moved to 8.30pm. The two Christmas specials have aired for 40 minutes, as part of the festive season and airtimes are listed at episode level. The third series of three episodes aired for a hour on Sundays at 8pm. The show was set in the small West Country town of Clatterford, St. Mary. The character-driven series took a look at the lives of the members of a neighbourhoods' Women's Guild. The title music which opened each episode was 'The Village Green Preservation Society', performed by folk singer Kate Rushby, who also provided alot of the incidental music throughout the series. Throughout her blog in November 2009, star of the show Pauline McLynn announced that the show would not be returning, although both French & Saunders were willing to continue with a new series.

Jennifer Saunders is truely brilliant with her writing and the characters are slightly weird but extremely funny. Especially Series 3 which has been brilliant. I loved the comedy that was portrayed to the drama, i truely felt for Jennifer Saunders character in the episide involving her son. Yet at the same time it was comedic. I think Dawn French as Rosie / Margaret, is hilarious. Her relationship with the other characters. Again the French and Saunders relationship on the small screen pays off. They are a wonderful partnership. The use of folk music added to the series and made it more enjoyable. I loved the way it fitted in. Also making the more enjoyable was the beautiful countryside scenery where the series was set.moreless
  • This show is alright, nothing special, but there is a lot worse out there. It has got betwee over time though.

    7.5
There are some things about this programme that I do not like, but this show does make me laugh. Other works by French and Saunders have crippled me with laughter so I did expect the same with this programme, and it is funny, but it's different because of the rest of the cast interacting with those two.

I greatly recommend this show to anyone who is a fan of French and Saunders, but I do warn you that it is slightly different from everything else they have done. It is very understandable to see why it has received mixed reviews, but me personally, I like it.moreless
  • A wholesome comedy depicting village life

    7.6
As I watched initial trailers for this show I noted with the delight the well-known cast which included some of my personal favourites including Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, even Joanna Lumley. Seeing as it was written by Jennifer Saunders and being aired at prime-time on the BBC I was hoping for something that matched Absolutely Fabulous or the Vicar of Dibley but I was disappointed in that respect. However, I soon learnt that it wasn't that kind of show. It is better compared to something like Monarch of the Glen which depicts a way of life and indulges it with endearing and humorous characters without necessarily needing slapstick humour or outright comedy; The humour is in the characters and their antics. Essentially, this is a very heartfelt program with some chuckles along the way.moreless
  • Alright but as funny as some others...

    7.2
The first ep was fairly funny, it was crazy a bit like Vicar of Dibley but the second episode went down hill, I didn't laugh once! I thought it was supposed to be a comedy not a soap opera. I'm just looking for a laugh out loud show on TV for once but nothing seems to be funny on TV anymore. I wish they would make a good comedy to put on TV. Anyway it needs to be funnier and it could be improved. So thats mi say for it but watch it yourself and see what you think, don't go by reviews...moreless
