      • Many of James' romantic scenes with exchange student Christina are accompanied by the song "Just the Way You Are" by Billy Joel.

      • Much hoopla attended the airing of this episode, as it was considered scandalous at the time for TV to portray a teenage boy having a sex life. Writer/creator Dan Wakefield left the series soon after this episode, because the network would not allow the characters to use (or discuss) birth control. In fact, though not credited, much of the script for this episode was written by Wakefield, and then re-written by him again. However, he refused to remove his references to birth control and disagreed with the network's plans to have further episodes that dealt with possible pregnancy and venereal disease.

      • With this episode, the show's name becomes James at 16. A new theme song is used, written and performed by England Dan and John Ford Coley.
