In the show, the humorist also chatted with fascinating individuals in unusual regions of the USA. Shepherd penned the show that was produced by WGBH, a Boston public TV station. The series offered funny, memorable, and poignant reflections on what it takes to be a modern American. It was telecast in 1971. Shepherd, who died in 1999, is best known as the narrator of the film "A Christmas Story" which he had also co-written.
