This is another brilliantly painful episode. While most of the plot is fairlly standard mopping up from the last two episodes (and as Once More With Feeling taught us, that's not easy), it still manages to do some good things.
The exploration with Mister Smith and the horrid things he has to do under god's name is harrowing to see how much he rejects it. I wonder how many evangelicals would be gleeful if god told them to kill people. Then again I guess that's how crazy people are made.
It's worth watching for those scenes alone, seeing poor little Sam Gamgee being forced to do these kind of things so early on in his relationship with the cast. It certainly puts the cards on the table as far as what will/can go on with him.
