Joey wonders if he should do an impersonation of Jay Leno. Before becoming the host of The Tonight Show, Jay Leno widely used impersonations in his comedy routine. He stills does them from time to time as part of his show.
On Joey's Magna Doodle: A guy in a hospital bed; a dog sitting nearby; the number 428.
Alex's client Mr. Tonaka, whose company is in trouble, is also the name of Carlos' boss on Desperate Housewives. He and his boss were also in trouble with the government, but for sweatshops.
Cop's Radio: Officer Bradley, we have a 10-12.
Gina: Oh my God, that's a woman going into labor!
Joey: How do you know that?
Gina: I was a 10-12 on my way to the prom.
Gina: Can you believe this? Michael gave a guy the finger, and you're gonna be on the Tonight Show. Let us remember this day.
Michael: Did you know that there was a woman's number in the pocket? (hands Joey her number)
Joey: Oh my God. To find a number I thought I'd lost forever, it's like the ending of a great romantic movie. (unfolds the paper to read it) Oh, her? No.
(on the "Deep Powder" set)
Bobbie: Hello, everyone. I just watched your last scene. Wow! You're all so lucky to have work. (to Joey) So what do you think? Are you excited to do it?
Joey: (confused) What are you talking about?
Bobbie: Did I not tell you? I'm a little off. I was at the gate looking through my purse for my wallet, and I accidentally tasered myself.
Joey: Look, Judoman, big guy who was sitting in the back of Judoman's truck for no apparent reason . . .
Michael: (about the two Judo men) They don't look so big now.
Joey: No, they just look smaller because they're getting into some sort of attack stance.
Joey: (considering running to the Tonight Show) The studio's nine miles away, and I've got 45 minutes. Do you think I can make it?
Michael: That depends: are you a Kenyan man with a number on his back?
Joey: It's just, when I was a kid, I used to dream about being on the Tonight Show. You know, Johnny Carson would come out and introduce me and I'd come out and he'd say, 'How you doin' Joey?' and I'd say, 'Just great, Johnny' and now that day is finally here. I'm so scared, 'cause...
Michael: Because you're afraid you're gonna say Johnny's name instead of Jay's?
Joey: It could so happen.
Joey says that he's supposed to be grooving out to Maroon 5 and Colin Farrell on The Tonight Show.
Maroon 5 is a hugely successful pop rock band that has sold over 15 million albums world wide. They have had a string of hits, including This Love and She Will Be Loved.
Colin Farrell is a Golden Globe winning actor of Irish decent. He is best known for his roles in Daredevil, Miami Vice, Alexander, and SWAT; to name just a few.
When Joey is talking about his Halloween story, he says that he was dressed as the Grinch and a girl was dressed as Catwoman.
The Grinch is referring to the title character from Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas. It is a beloved story about a Grinch who hates Christmas and tries to ruin it for the Who's of Whoville. Through a series of events he finds his heart growing and he helps to make Christmas come back alive for the Who's. It was also made into a live action movie in 2000 starring Jim Carrey.
Catwoman is a property of DC Comics and one of their most popular comic characters. She is one of Batman's villains and a sometimes lover. She has been featured in various television shows and movies and her character was made into a solo feature film starring Halle Berry.
Joey says that the only thing bigger than being on The Tonight Show would be making his Oscar speech.
The is a reference to the Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars. The awards celebrate excellence in all walks of the film community and have been given each year since 1929. It is arguably the most important film achievement, and the awards ceremony always draws Hollywood's elite. Winners will commonly give a thank you speech once they have come up to the stage to receive their award.
Joey references Johnny Carson several times throughout the episode.
Johnny Carson was the original host of The Tonight Show for 30 years before he retired and Jay Leno took over.
The officer on the motorcycle thinks Joey is Tony Danza.
Tony Danza is an Italian American actor most famous for his role on the hit sitcom Who's The Boss.
The guy in the El Camino asks Gina if she knows Whitesnake (her favorite band). Gina then says that she just got the Japanese release of Slip of the Tongue.
Whitesnake is a popular heavy metal band famous for such hits like Here I Go Again and Slide It In. They have been working on a comeback since 2006.
Slip of the Tongue from 1989 was one of their best selling albums. Incidentally, there was no Japanese release of the album. It was released in many other countries, but it was only available as an import in Japan.
