Goof: When Joey is making the omelette for Donna, we see Joey breaking the eggs and then put the bowl on the table, then when the shot changes, they are no longer there, then come back again in a later shot.
Goof: Young Michael bats right-handed on the videotape, while Older Michael bats left-handed at the batting cage. While it's possible that he's a switch hitter, it's probably more likely that there was a mistake made in the casting department.
When Joey is talking to Eric in the hot tub, he freaks out when he drops his army man and it falls in. However, in the previous hot tub scene, Alex fished it out of the pool and Joey was fine with it.
On Joey's Magna Doodle: A dragon.
Joey shows Alex's husband an issue of Soap Opera Digest from 1997 with him on the cover. But Joey had been fired from Days of Our Lives in early '96. They didn't rehire him until 2001. There wasn't a single episode of Friends in 1997 where Joey appeared on a soap opera.
This is the first episode where Gina mentions Jager when getting a drink. This will be a recurring theme throughout the series. Jager is a type of 70 proof sweet liqueur.
Goof: In the scene where Joey first meets Brian, the Apple Cinema Display on the desk spontaneously turns in to an eMac and back again between shots.
On Joey's Magna Doodle: a scene from Aesop's Fable, "The Fox and the Grapes." (The fox, snapping at the grapes, just out of reach).
Goof: When Joey goes to see his agent, we can see the paper pad and the pen move in between shots.
The title of the episode is Joey and the Perfect Storm.
The term 'a perfect storm' refers to when an unlikely series of events line up to make a conditional event come true. In this case, all three actors had to be unable to play the lead roles all at once, causing Joey to have to go from understudy to star.
On Joey's Magna Doodle: a snail, saying "Weee" as it rides on a turtle's back.
Goof: During the end credits, the amount of milk in Michael's glass keeps changing.
A lot of people wrote in to note that Joey says he's never lived alone before, pointing out that he moved out of Chandler's place during season 2. What they don't note is that he's had stretches where he was alone that happened off camera. I'm guessing he just meant that he's never lived alone for an extended period of time.
Gina again references the hit show that Joey turned down. She is referring to Nurses from the Pilot episode. Joey instead took a role on a violent cop drama which ended up being cancelled while Nurses became an overnight hit.
Joey mentions that Michael had a Dorothy Hamill haircut in Gina's hairstyle portfolio. Dorothy Hamill was also one of the five people that Ross (from Friends) put on his list of five celebrities he was allowed to sleep with.
On Joey's Magna Doodle: A hula dancer.
Goof: When Joey goes to his agent, we see her putting sugar in her drink and stirring it twice, and also the red stirrer keeps disappearing and reappearing from her drink.
Joey says that because of Gina dating his friends he ended up having to do theater. However, it was revealed through various episodes of Friends that Joey always wanted to be an actor. This is stated again in the season 2 episode of Joey, Joey and the Dad, when Joey's father is upset that Joey didn't become a plumber like him.
It is revealed that Alex is 28 years old.
Simon Helberg (Seth) will later go on to star in The Big Bang Theory as another science nerd.
