Overall I thought this was an outstanding first episode for the 1960's show Johnny Sokko. It is usually difficult for writers to balance the demands of backstory and current story for a pilot but I thought the balance was perfect here. Sure there was ridiculousness everywhere but wouldn't you expect that from a show that feautres men in rubber suits?

Firstly, why is Johnny Sokko travelling alone in dangerous waters? Why is no one alarmed when Dr. Guardian announces he has set an atomic bomb to detonate in 5 minutes? Is this a magic atomic bomb that does not harm Johnny and Jerry with radiation? How does Johnny know what the giant robot's special attacks are? Was he handed a manual at some point that we missed?

The monster Dracolon I would have to rate a 6. The sinister Emperor Guillatine commands him to sink ships in the Pacific Ocean which he handles adroitly. In his fight with giant robot he does get the upper hand early but with Johnny taking control of the robot Dracolon crumbles like a house of cards. It had no special attacks and walked with the side to side movement of an out of shape sumo wrestler so no points awarded for originality.moreless
