Pie in the Sky
AIRED:
JoJo and her clown scout friends are going on a special camping trip to celebrate the first day of spring. They've stopped by Uncle Flippy's farm to gather food for the trip. Everyone takes the time to express their appreciation for the farm and sing their own special version of "Old MacDonald." The first day of spring is also the start of "cream pie in the sky" season. That night, the kids watch for the flying cream pies, which are basically a lot like meteor showers. Fire Chief Seltzer explains that they usually break up in the air long before they hit the ground. Nobody's worried when JoJo spots a particularly big one, but the next morning, they find that the pie creamed Uncle Flippy's farm. With the farm a mess, Uncle Flippy feels he has no choice but to settle down somewhere else. JoJo doesn't want him to leave. She gathers the entire town to help save Uncle Flippy's farm.moreless

    • TRIVIA (5)

      • JoJo learned in this episode that when you're hit with a pie in the sky, or anything else that makes you scared or worried, it's alwasy better if everyone works together to help each other out.

      • The theme of this episode is highly similar to that of an episode from another Playhouse Disney program, Bear in the Big Blue House. In the two-part "Welcome to Woodland Valley" episode of that series, the commmunity of Woodland Valley came together after a falling tree damaged the town's library. Whereas this episode of JoJo's Circus was in response to Hurricane Katrina, the Bear in the Big Blue House episode was in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11 (and was also used to help launch the program's fourth season.)

      • This episode was billed in promos as a "special." The following message was aired before the premiere of the episode --- "It's been one year since Hurricane Katrina. We hope watching this special with your children will help you to talk to them, comfort and reassure them that the communities working together can overcome great odds."

      • Online schedule listings originally listed this episode as having to do with a JoJo and her friends from clown class going on a camping trip. Later, schedule listings discussed a cream pie hitting Uncle Flippy's farm. It turns out that both actually happen in this episode.

      • Originally listed to premiere on May 2, 2006, this episode is turning out to be "pie in the sky" for viewers of the show. It was listed to air at an unusual time --- 4 A.M. in the morning. However, a repeat of "A Circus Town Wedding" was aired instead. This was billed as a "Cable in the Classroom" airing. Cable in the Classroom's official website listed this episode as airing at that time, however, Disney's special page for these airings correctly showed "A Circus Town Wedding."

This episode then appeared in the schedule for May 10, 2006 in the show's normal timeslot, but instead a repeat of a first season episode, "Funny Bunnies / Ivan the Bearable" was shown. It was then listed for May 22, 2006, but "Charlie the Clown Baby Returns / Fishing Trip" was aired instead. The episode finally aired on August 29 in the program's normal timeslot of 9 A.M., having been announced a couple weeks earlier in TV Guide magazine.
