  • A Special Episode

    8.0
I consider this episode as a special episode, because Jade is in it. It may not be as great as other episodes like The House of Seven Gargoyles, Monsters in the Monastery, Dragons of Ashida, and other episodes. But it still fun to watch it. Movements of Monsters like Dinosaur and Spider are brilliantly directed. Appearance of Jade makes this episode special and a good episode to enjoy. I definetely give this episode 8 out of 10.moreless
  • A memorable episode, well thought out.

    8.2
Set in Hong Kong, this episode begins with a suspenseful set-piece in which a man is stalked by a giant crustacean. Soon after, we meet Dr. Chu Sing Ling, who is creating gigantic mutations of ordinary creatures. He asks Dr. Quest for advice. Quest is put off by Ling's recklessness -- a major complaint is that effluent from Ling's lab is affecting the local environment. Ling decides to have Quest abducted, and as a first step sends a beautiful photographer to the restaurant where Quest and his party are dining. After Quest is kidnapped, his bodyguard Race Bannon goes to the rescue. Soon, action explodes -- literally! The mayhem does not destroy Ling's electrical system, although he ends up wishing it had.

Ling is the type of character no one seems to create any more (lest there be accusations of racism). But "Terror Island" is satisfying, with all the action and suspense one expects in a first-season JQ. And there are details which put substance in this ep: the exquisitely rendered settings; Quest's reaction to the accident involving Jonny and Hadji; Quest's concern about pollution; the set-up to Quest's abduction.
