Jonny lifts one of the gargoyles he was given as a gift and carries it back to the automobile, even though a real gargoyle weights 300 to 400 pounds. Is he just super strong or what?
Professor Ericson: Dietrich! Dietrich Sorenson! He was once Norway's greatest acrobatic dwarf. I wonder how he ever got involved in a thing like this.
Mike Road, the voice of Race, provided the voice for one of the bad guys on the submarine.
The word gargoyle comes from the French word gargouille, which means 'spout' or 'waterspout'. The original and best known gargoyles are part of the system of ducts and spouts that carries water away from the famous French cathedral, Notre Dame. Originally, a gargoyle was a grotesque figure that was part of such a drainage system. Now, the term refers to any grotesque figure, especially of carved stone.
The episode's title is a small play on the title of Nathaniel Hawthorne's well-known gothic novel, The House of Seven Gables (1851).
