Most group heath insurance policies contain a subrogation clause. Subrogation is an insurance claims process where a company looks for reimbursement from an at-fault party. In an car accident (as in the episode I saw) the group health plan goes ahead and pays the medical expenses BUT (big but) if/when a third party (auto ins) pays you directly - you are required to reimburse the HEALTH ins for any benefits they issued on your behalf for medical expenses due to that auto accident.

Judge Judy stated something to the effect of : "I've never HEARD of such a requirement!" How could she not know this. (What else doesn't she know?????)
  • Social Class

    3.0
Since when are deadbeats a social class?
  • The sad young gay black man

    3.0
I lost all respect for JJ when she totally humiliated the young gay black man. He ran to the corner of the "courtroom" and was sobbing. She didn't give a rat's behind about him. I was so moved that I actually emailed the show. And of course didn't receive a reply. She was so cruel to this young man, it literally left me in tears. JJ, it's time to move to Florida and hopefully learn some compassion.
  • Women Sues Dog Owner After Dog Bites Her.

    1.0
Watched an episode in which a woman sued a dog owner. This after the dog bit the woman and the woman's husband threatened to kill the dog. Something Judge Judy didn't even acknowledge, even though she is as particular as she is. Also, the dog owners responsibly had the dog euthanized. But the woman who was bitten was not happy with just the medical bill payment AND the dog being put to sleep. She felt she had to go after the owner for 'pain and suffering' as woman had a scar on her arm but seemed to have no problem moving it, no sympathy and was just money hungry to me. Yet Judge Judy rewarded her additional money. I do believe this was the wrong decision. The plaintiff was bitten at the defendants place when she asked to go into the defendants house to use the least I would recognize that the dog owner was just being polite letting me use her washroom and leave things well alone after getting my medical bill covered. Please be responsible dog owners, if you know your dog is aggressive, don't invite people into your home even if you think you're being polite bc they ask to use your washroom. To those all too willing to kill an animal, recognize that animals are animals, they don't know how to be 'bad'. They just do what they feel they should to protect themselves. This eat or be eaten mentality is not only wrong, it is ignorant. An animal shouldn't have to pay for irresponsible behaviour on the part of the owner. To the plaintiff: you asked to go into the dog owner's home and she was polite enough to let you use the washroom. She did not bring her dog out without a leash, this pet was in the privacy of her own home and, again, she was doing you a favour. But a medical bill for a bite was not enough for you. She spoke about how hard it was to put down a family member and that your husband said that if she didn't 'take care' of the dog, he would. I am far more afraid of people like you and your husband than a dog starting to show signs of aggression.
  • Turned Off By Judge(mental) Judy

    7.0
I once enjoyed Judge Judy. But the incident in her court with the puppy and lawsuit against her involving the China (specifically her remarks about how the woman should "get a job", which has nothing to do with whether or not something the woman already bought with her husband belongs to her or not.

Honestly, in American courtroom dramas, most of the judges seem to speak out against people on social security or disability. I believe this is because the public feels the need to vilify one specific social group to feel in control of a situation (the economic trouble we're face) they have no real control over.

The last good courtroom drama I've ever seen was "All Rise For Julian Clary".
  • Judge Judy may lose her cool, but she has to deal with people that have no common sense

    8.5
I may not be a 100% die hard fan of Judge Judy, but it is the only show worth watching at 4 PM in my area (Spokane, WA), since Dr. Oz, The Doctors, and Steve Harvey are all on at the same time and Judge Judy is the only one worth watching. I think Judge Judy can be an actual b*** most of the time, but mostly because she has to deal with people that don't use common sense and come to the court room unprepared for the case. If you are prepared for the case and want action, then Judge Judy is for you. If not, then go to People's Court. Keep up the good work, Judge Judy! :)
  • Social Security Disability benefits do not a user make...

    2.0
This is a review of the Mar 8 airing of the 41 and 18 year old women and JJ's comment that the 41 year old woman was living off the people/government because she was in receipt of Social Security disability. I worked determining eligibility for financial assistance programs for almost 30 years and I'm tired of the misconceptions concerning entitlements. Not only was it exhibited by JJ but I hear it frequently misrepresented by the media and our elected officials.

There are earned rights benefits and there are needs based benefits. Earned rights benefits are something that, as a recipient, you have paid into for the right to receive. Example: 1)Social Security benefits are received when an individual has contributed to our governments insurance plan through payroll deduction or self-employment contributions in order to have a certain amount of monthly income at retirement or (God forbid) disability or death before the age of retirement. This will allow for income to minor dependents as well. 2)Unemployment benefits and 3) Medicare would be other examples. These are not "welfare" and are not a needs based benefit.

Needs based benefits are what is received when an individual has met a certain asset or poverty level percentage income test. Examples of needs based benefits would be: 1)Supplemental Security Income benefits when an individual does not have a sufficient earnings history to qualify for a disability benefit or the Social Security earned rights benefit is so low a supplement can be added because the recipient meets the income/assets requirements. 2) Food Benefits 3) Aid to Dependent Children 4) Medicaid.

Just a thought here: Do we consider retirees a leech to society? I think not! Neither should we consider a person in receipt of Social Security Disability a "user" or someone who lives off the people/government as this lady was ignorantly and disrespectfully referred to by JJ. She paid in to the fund and met the requirements to draw a disability benefit before the age of retirement and met the disability requirements to draw a benefit. You also might note that disability benefits are not easily applied for or received. It more often than not results in multiple applications and/or appeals.

I believe JJ owes this woman an apology. Get educated and give her one.

  • I will never, ever watch Judge Judy again

    1.0
I could not believe the show where Judge Judy gave a little boy's puppy dog to a thief. It was bad enough that the thief knew the name and address of the real owner and didn't contact them for 2-3 months, but when Judge Judy said that whoever the puppy dog chose or went to first when it entered the courtroom got to keep the puppy dog, I was appalled. Then when the puppy dog went to the little boy I was so happy cause I thought for sure justice had prevailed. But! then Judge Judy told the thief to call the dog and the dog went to him because he had called the dog over to him. Then in an unbelievably horrendous and ridiculous judgement, Judge Judy said the thief could keep the puppy dog because it went to him as a second choice???? Are you kidding me???? So she basically lied. The puppy dog choose the little boy first so by her own words the puppy dog should have gone home with the little boy. But the little boy lost the dog all over again because of Judge Judy! I am still horribly appalled. ..... Also, I am compelled to mention that the puppy dog had been given to the little boy by his grandmother before she had died earlier that year. The show ended with the little boy (8-9 years old I will guess) sobbing uncontrollably. I will not ever watch this show again.
  • For the first time I'm really angered by one of her decisions!

    1.5
I also have to weigh in on the recent show where she made the appalling and ridiculous decision to award a dog thief and break the heart of an innocent little boy and his family. I watched in horror and disbelief as this occurred. I usually find her to be clever and entertaining. However, after watching this decision I was mad at her and the dog napped and heartbroken for the little boy. Judge Judy blew it big time with that decision.
  • Laws regarding the age of intimate partners

    5.0
Today Judge Judy expressed her opinion about a 52 year old man dating a 26 year old woman in determining her decision. I don't know of any law prohibiting this or saying this is wrong. Judges possess incredible power that can ruin people's lives over their own personal likes or dislikes.
  • Judge Judy really blew it!

    1.0
It is time for this judge to throw in the towel and retire. I cannot believe her ruling the other night, in which she awarded a lost puppy to a dog thief and had a little boy (the owner of the dog) hysterically sobbing. I cannot bear to ever watch this show again! I can't believe that she did this. Even in a very similar case on People's Court, years ago, ended with Judge Wapner awarding a puppy back to it's rightful owner, who was a little girl. She has done permanent, emotional damage to this little boy!!! I hope the mother puts a civil suit up against her!
  • Dognapper awarded puppy he kept

    1.0
I have always been a big fan of Judge Judy--until tonight. I was in tears after she awarded the puppy kept by a guy down the street to him rather than to the little boy who owned the dog. The guy who found the dog the day after it was lost knew the boy had lost him, yet deliberately withheld it. When the puppy was finally located and the case brought to Judge Judy, she actually let the guy keep the dog. The boy's grandma who had since died had given the puppy to the boy, and Judy awarded the family $2500 to buy a new dog. He didn't want the money or another dog; he wanted his dog. The guy who had the puppy knew all the time who owned it. Pure theivery, yet he was rewarded. The boy was almost hysterical after the guy got his dog. How is it legal or moral for Judge Judy to do such a thing??????

    retire and take a vacation

  • Retired immediately

    10
She is a mean spiteful arrogant piece of nothing. She needs to retire to an area where she can never be heard again.
  • A change for the new year!

    2.0
I can no longer watch Judge Judy. She isn't as smart as she thinks she is. She's rude by calling people names on air. She reminds me of a BULLY with the way she portrays herself to be. I really think CBS should look at something else for her time slot. The only thing good about her is that she does call out the deadbeat dads and moms. Time to retire Judy.
  • Always beating up the White race ,afraid of the Black race

    1.0
Judge Judy you took a oath to uphold the law and deliver justice equally, you sure don't do this any we supposed to believe that only white people screw up in life, the way you talk to your white guest is the way your supposed to talk to all people .And yes Blacks are people clearly are very selective about your guest and have only a few black guest on with the most uninteresting cases ,you never talk to them the way you talk to your white are clearly afraid to take a stand on equal treatment under the you have no problem accepting a paycheck every shame on you.
  • She isn't Always Right.

    1.0
The word Right is relative, and she ISN'T as smart as 'she thinks' she is. That is a bit of arrogance showing, but then, it's Judith Sheindlin, what's new. LOL. I used to watch her show, but not anymore. The older she gets, the more crotchety she gets, like an OLD WOMAN. BORING.
  • Judge Judy must apologize

    1.0
Judy had severally castigated Nigeria as scammers whom she dubbed '419'. Judy need to take a step back and have a second look at her own community and compare which of them is the actual scammer. The truth is that scamming came down from the western world to the 3rd world countries. It could be that few scammers in those small countries are practicing what the big countries thought them how to do. Seriously speaking; these civilized countries should take full responsibilities for this poverty riddled countries because they continued to rip them off of their crude oil and natural resources with empty promises of civilization. Case scenario, someone asked you to pay $100 to get $1 million in return! Who will ever respond to such ridiculous request? Only a greedy person will respond and this greedy people are probably Judge Judy's because they are greedy and derive joy in taking other people's money. It is another typical example how the western world ripped off African communities and their economy. Can reap where you did not sow? Judge Judy got the gut to castigate others; maybe she doesn't watch TV/news across America. Tell Judy to watch the show on CNBC American Greed. Remember these guys Allen Stanford, Kenneth Ira Starr, Carlos Perez-Olivio, Nevin Shapiro, Kevin Cohen, Tom Petters, Norman Schmidt, Lee Farkas and thousands of them. Google them and read how they scammed people; they are American scammers not Nigerians. About 90% of Nigerians living in American are respectable professionals. I am not saying there are no bad eggs, just like there are bad eggs everywhere including. Please apologize to these respectable Nigerians living in this country that you maimed their good name in your court. If you point a finger at me, four of the fingers will point back at you.

I love the way Judge Judy gets the truth out of the people who goes to her court.
  • A clever title goes here!

I watch this all of the time even though i really get irrate with Judge Judy especially when she compares her self with the people she is ajudicating does she not understand if not for the poor who are watching her show and buying the products that are being hawked whiled being watch she would not have all that she has. And Byrd is so disrepectful to her he is the wrost ballif of all the tv judges why does she put up with him i understand that he doesn't like the way she treats people but hey that is what makes her and him rich. I really want to put some fire under his feet and make him move a little faster across those ten inches that he has to walk to get something from the participants I say that it looks like he is tired and has enough money and it is time to give me a job I am a little large but i believe i could walk a little faster.
  • Judge Judy's judgements.

    2.5
I watch Judge Judy on occasion. Some cases she doesnt even allow the person to finish. The show today, the woman won a judgement for her dog being hurt, when she tried to ask something else Judge Judy cut her off. Next case was about a golf ball, she didnt ask to see any reciept that the window was paid for and how much he paid. He just said an amount at that was it. Most times people have insurance and they only have to pay the deductable. I was under the assumption that the party is to be made whole not benefit more from the judgement. I an times feel Judge Judy is not fair in her assumptions of people and can be very rude. If this is just a show for ratings and not judgements, I guess she can act that way. But I was under the assumption that all the case are real. I woundnt dream of coming on the show because she treats some people very mean. Others she is nice. Sometimes I feel like she has already made her judgement before she hears all the evidence. I usually can who is going to win before its even over just by her words. I cant believe people go on here. Its probably because they are approached by your show. I believe if our local judges acted like her we would see alot of upset people.
  • Judge Judy, Queen of Animus

    1.0
I agree with GreenArrow101. I am finally going to quit watching her because she is like so many peddlers of animus. Watching her, listening to Rush Limbaugh, and others who also trade in name calling. She will call litigants idiots.... when, if she needed to get that off her chest, she might have said, "You're behaving like an idiot", or "that's just idiotic.. I suggest those who "love" her are getting vicarious pleasure watching this little Napoleon bully the vulnerable foolish enough to be in attendance, probably to avoid actually paying athe penalty they would in an actual small claims court. The danger of continually watching these asps spewing their venom is we perpetuate the behavior that brings them $45,000,000.00/year. Watching her disdain for anyone victimized by the economy. "Flip Burgers" she spits at them. Don't say "uh.." Don't try to relax... She must disarm because she is "smarter than you. You'll never be as smart as me... " says she. She says she is kept on the air because she is smart... The truth is she gets the big bucks because idiots like me keep watching her. Daytime programing is full of Jerry Springer wannabes and they keep coming... because so many watch them. Watching them makes possible the dumming down of America will continue. We should be better. We should demand better.

I love watching Judge Judy,I wish we had a Judge like her in perry co. ky.
  • judge judy sucks

    1.0
Judge Judy is a real bitch. She has her mind made up as soon as she sits down. She makes her mind up off stage and then gives the litigants hell. May she be in front of an arbitrater some day. Hopefully she will be removed from TV soon.
  • Some people just don't get it

    10
Reading the reviews of Judge Judy, I am amazed at how many people just don't understand it. Firstly, it s not a law court, it is simply binding arbitration where the producers of the show pay any judgements. Secondly, to try and compare the US judicial system with the UK system is simply ridiculous - a UK judge, barrister or court officer would be laughed out of a US court. Thirdly, there's a comment that she doesn't even listen to the case - don't forget she gets a full brief before taping and the show is edited (who wants to watch the boring bits) down to a 5-10 minute segment. The audience are all extras.

Read the blurb at the end of the credits - none of this is hidden!

She's geat - love the show just as I love lots of other dramas and the other court shows are boring by comparison. Clearly the participants are encouraged to behave in a somewhat different manner than they would do in a real court but this is television folks, not real life. Watch it for what it is - entertainment - and the haters might change their opinion. It's nice for once to see intelligent people on TV. She knows the law (in the US) and applies it in an ascerbic and humourous (yes, I am a Brit) way. Rock on Judy, I hope you go on for years and years.
  • This may be the worst show on TV, if not, it's the worst court TV show for sure

    1.0

After telling people not to talk over her, she talks over them. Not only that, but she name-calls and doesn't let anybody finish talking. I can agree that some of the low lives on her show deserve it, but two wrongs don't make a right. She doesn't have a gavel for crying out loud; that's not a judge. Once, a "chubby" (I don't want to say what she said) teenager was on the show, and she made the remark "It looks like you've never missed a meal". If this was real court, she would have been taken to the Supreme Court for that. In fact, Judge Wapner criticized her, saying "She is not portraying a judge as I view a judge should act. Judge Judy is discourteous, and she's abrasive. She's not slightly insulting; she's insulting in capital letters." Judy's idiotic response: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." What about her? What about what she does to the litigants? While some litigants may deserve it, this is court, and courts aren't meant for this type of abuse.

While she does have some good things (for example, a sense of humor every now and then), the cons far outweigh the pros. The People's Court, Judge Alex, and even Judge Joe Brown are better than this trash. This show makes me want to bury my TV and read a book.

There is NOTHING interesting or consistent in this witches rulings. She is a total narcississ, who NEVER listens, that is extremely obvious, rules based on personal prejudices (not on any legal basis). She has come to believe she is the Messiah and the world better watch out, she has spoken. How anyone would subject themselves to this witch or like anything about her is beyond understanding. The only thing I can think of is they are the same people who like to look at car wrecks and drool, and other nasty spectator 'sports'.

I think that Judge Judy should run for the President of the United sates. She should really consider it. I think if she was president we would not be in the trouble we are now in.

Used to be a fan but lately some rulings by her are absolutely ridiculous, example, the lady who bought a car and parked at home until she can do whatever with it later, her boyfriend used the car without her knowledge, no insurance and no safety stickers, Judge Judy said she shouldn't have bought the car and park it at home without insurance, Judge Judy, if you are not driving a car on the street and you bought the car to fix it later, you DO NOT have to put insurance on it until it is street ready. The guy drove the car without permission, plain and clear. Maybe the mild stroke that she had is affecting her reasoning
