Episode Summary

EDIT
A surprise visit from his fireman father leaves Finch puzzled, since the two had always been emotionally distant from one another. When Red Finch suggests that he and his son spend some quality time together, Finch can only surmise that his father is either dying or having an affair. Meanwhile, Maya invites Jack to her apartment to dinner in order to convince him that the neighborhood she lives in is not as bad as he thinks.moreless

      • Red: Guess what they were giving away at the firemen's convention this year?
        Dennis: I don't know, axes?
Red: You always were the smart one, it's yours. (Hands him a large red ax)
Dennis: Wow, this'll come in handy never.
Guy with Tattoo: (stepping off elevator) Where's Finch?
Dennis (still holding ax) Right here.
        Guy with Tattoo: Never mind.

      • Persky: There's a guy with an ax looking for you.
Dennis: Big, tall, greasy dude with "Mayhem" tattooed on his neck, screaming about how I slept with his girlfriend?
        Persky: No, big, older guy.
Dennis: Oh, hell, it's my dad.

      • Buck: If you're not gay, why don't you like fishing?
Dennis: You guys didn't even invite me.
Red: You never showed any interest. By the time it became a tradition, Scottie here, he was bringin' that friend of his—what was that kid's name, the good lookin' kid?
        Buck: Bradley.
Red: Bradley. That's right, Bradley—like two peas in a pod, they were. Always sneakin' away to their private little fishing spot, disappearing for hours at a time. Bradley never caught a fish, God bless him.
Buck: Nowadays, Scottie brings his roommate, Timothy. He's an architect.
Red: He's got a voice like a nightingale, singing all those songs along the campfire. He taught us some terrific new songs. Ccome to think of it, that's where I heard that song from Showboat, it was Timothy... (As he figures it out, he looks at Scottie) Pass the salt.

    • NOTES (1)

      • Dennehy does not appear in the end credits. This is also the second time this has happened with a guest star. The episode was also a reunion of sorts for Spade and Dennehy, as the two appeared together in Tommy Boy. Curiously, Dennehy played Chris Farley's father that while he plays David Spade's father in this episode.
