Episode Recap

65 Years From Now

A shadowy figure breaks into a well-protected manor, taking out the security guards. He knocks them all out and enters a room to confront . . . an elderly Amanda Waller. She identifies the figure as an adult Terry McGinnis – Batman.

An angry Terry confronts Bruce in the Batcave, accusing him of being arrogant and ignoring all the people who helped him then left him. Bruce announces they didn't have the heart for the mission and he didn't expect Terry to stick with it either.

Terry has questions for Waller who tells him she'll have to humor him.

Terry meets with Dana and tells her they have to break up rather then get married – the villains could use her as leverage against him. He warns her that he's "poison" and leaves her..

The future Justice League (Aquagirl, a Tibetan Green Lantern, Warhawk) confront the Inquity Collective – Inque, Parasite, Shriek, and Stalker. Terry arrives just in time to defeat Shriek then announces he is resigning from the League.

Waller asks when Terry figured it out, and he reveals that his DNA is perfectly compatible with Bruce.

Terry angrily confronts Bruce in the Batcave and admits his dad was a good man, but that his feelings for his father were a lie – Bruce is his true father. Bruce admits he needed someone to go on for him, but doesn't acknowledge how he did it or that he did it. Bruce has a seizure and drops his pills, and an angry Terry leaves him.

Amanda tells Terry of a story of when the League (Batman, Hawkgirl, Dr. Light, Red Tornado, Stargirl) fought the new Royal Flush Gang, created by Ace (from "Wild Cards"). They take down all of the members but Ace, who has altered the landscape and created a Alice in Wonderland like fantasy. Waller arrives to warn them that Ace is dying . . . but her mental powers will kill everyone within her power range when she goes. She gives them a device to kill Ace, but only Batman can get close enough. He goes into her manufactured castle and the other Leaguers are turned away.

Bruce meets with Ace, who can read his mind and knows why he's there. He refuses to kill her and she knows it – he simply takes her hand and is there to comfort her when she dies. She passes away safely on her own and no one else is killed.

Back in the present, Waller reveals that Bruce had nothing to do with Terry – she is the one who "created" Terry McGinnis as Batman. Coming to respect him and realizing one day he'd be too old to continue, she secretly got a sample of Bruce's DNA and then arranged for it to be injected into Warren McGinnis along with nanobots that rewrote his own DNA. Terry was the result, but then Waller need to recreate the tragedy of Bruce Wayne as well. She employed he Phantasm to kill Terry's parents after a movie, but this Phantasm balked. But destiny was too strong – Warren McGinnis was murdered anyway and Terry found his way to Bruce and became his protégé. Waller tells Terry he has the choice and he has free will. She advises him to take care of the ones he loves and leaves.

Later that night, Terry calls Dana and asks if they're date is still on. She says it is . . . while he considers an engagement ring.

Then Bruce arrives and they talk – Terry doesn't reveal what he knows of his origins and Bruce reassures him, before noting Terry's "a stubborn piece of work." Terry whispers "Just like his old man," and departs.
