Superman has no patience for Captain Atom who has been sent to prevent their escape, but has to fight him so the Huntress can get the Question to safety. Captain Atom is briefly able to hold his own against Superman by focussing red-sun radiation, but Superman still defeats him while the Huntress and Question get clear and have J'onn teleport them to the Watchtower. Superman departs with an unconscious Captain Atom rather then leave him in Cadmus' hands.
A recuperating Question tells Superman of what happened at Cadmus and that he planned to kill Luthor to keep Superman from doing so. An angry Superman confronts the League and demands they should assault Cadmus, but J'onn and Green Arrow advise caution
Amanda Waller calls Luthor and warns him of what has happened, Lex is working on some secret project but advises Waller the League will have other things to worry about...then triggers a remote blast of the Watchtower's binary fusion cannon upon an abandoned Cadmus facility.
Aboard the Watchtower, J'onn is unable to abort the firing sequence and Superman is injured trying to stop the blast. The blast devastates a city below.
With the Watchtower powerless, J'onn tries to get the systems back on-line and takes a call from the President, who is suspicious but willing to give them a bit more time while the U.S. government investigates. Waller calls the President but he advises her to wait as well.
The League manage to launch rescue operations and the Flash leads a team of heroes doing everything they can for the locals. When someone realizes the blast came from the Watchtower, many of those they came to rescue refuse their aid.
Impatient with waiting, Waller decides to initiate Cadmus' plan against the League. She goes to a secret chamber where Tea (from "Fearful Symmetry") has fully recovered from her injuries and is ready to go. Waller leads her to her new "army" - clones of the Ultimen.
