Was it just me or did the power "ice" get way over used? Well for example, "Killer Frost" who was a female (punk) villian which shot what of her hands? Another example, "Captain Cold" who was a male villian which shot what out of his guns? And last but not least, "Ice" who was an actual hero who again shot what out of her hands? I mean if that's not over used than i don't know what is and don't get me started on the power "fire". Well if anyone else agrees with me or knows of some other power then please write it.

I agree with both of your points (especially fire-who hasn't used that power?). However, the classic super powers are classic for a reason. Abilities such as flight, super strength, super speed, etc., are instantly recognizable to readers/viewers and don't require a ton of explanation. You'd be pretty hard pressed to come up with a super power that absolutely no one has ever thought of before. Just about every different type of super power has already been done on Marvel's X-Men alone.

THE most overused super powers (IMO) are:

    Super strength
    Telekinesis
    Flight
    Eye beams
    Fire powers

Well like Blackstar already said, those are the original superpowers and are instantly recognized by viewers, it's not easy to come up with powers that haven't been used.

Word. It's true that powers such as strength, speed, flight, levitation/telekinesis, eye beams, pyrokinesis, etc. have basically been done to death, but those are also powers which are all instantly recognizable to comic nerds and uneducated novices alike, are extremely versatile for use in a wide variety of situations, and none of them require a lot of explanation or setup on the author's part. You see Wonder Woman and instantly get her deal: she's strong, fast and can fly. Flash, same deal: he's the really fast guy. Mr. Fantastic of Marvel comics fame: he's a stretchy, elastic guy. No explanations required for any of them.

The truth is that there's very little wholly original under the sun. Unless you're going to come up with something really obscure, stupid or weird, like say, a super bendy thumb or the ability to communicate with asparagus or something like that which would be hard to explain and even harder to work effectively into a story, you're usually best off just sticking to the hits. Like Blackstar said, the classic superpowers are classic for a reason.

Super strength or heightened strength is easily the most abused ability in comics. If you look at any team, there is ALWAYS at least 2 members that have the ability; Classic X-men have 3: Colossus, Rogue and Beast. JLA have 3: Supes, Diana and J'onn. Avengers have the big 3: Thor, Super soldier Captain America and Iron Man (even though its armor)... and so on. It's almost like super strength has become one of the standards in being considered a superhero. Sooner or later there will be someone that has an odd power; or at least something out of the realm of the norm. In Savage Dragon, there's a character that farts bombs. Next there will be someone that can literally urinate fire and talk out of their arses... Well, if that were the case, we'd all be superheroes.

The classic powers areclassic because those are the powers that everyone wants to have. Who hasn't thought of flying? Or being really, really fast, or evn being super-strong? Though, I'd rather be a Lantern. Sure, I wouldn't be unique, with there being like 7200 of them. But it'd be fun.

i think the writers of these shows need to think of better superpowers because 1# there's like 1000000 people with the same superpowers (e.g. super strength) and 2# there's guys from jlu that looks like marvel characters (e.g. that robot guy- iron man

Well...sometimes I think they way ones uses there powers make a difference.
Ok..look at Raven..she can move stuff..yadda yadda yadda. Nothing special there, tons of heros can move stuff with there minds. But she has a darker edge to her and it's emotion based alot of the times.

So even if the power might be generic, in the way the hero brings that ability out is something that can make it unique.
