When a fellow Marshal is murdered who was protected three Wit Sec people Raylan and the other Marshals are dispatched to look after them. The body, having been found looking like it was tortured for information makes Rachel and Tim go out after two witnesses for safekeeping, Art out to a third, and Raylan and an old friend, Assistant Director Goodall (Carla Gugino) who has a history with Raylan. Art's client is known to us to have been the triggerman on the Marshal but seeing the game of Art figuring it out was captivating and his beating and going all Russell Crowe in L.A. Confidential was a cool side that we rarely see out of Art as far as development goes. Boyd looks to corner Dickie to get information on something but it easily looks like he was just going to deal out some death to him. Dickie confesses that Mags had her money stashed away with a man called Limehouse who was holding onto it for her. Raylan and Goodall's takedowns of baddies at a hotel was romping and entertaining and the two play well off each other and her asking Raylan whether he misses Miami or not hints at a working relationship and respect. The episode ends up with Rachel having to dispatch two goons while protecting a mother and children and Mr. Poe (the Marshal killer) apparently sold out the locations of them to his old friend in the Mafia to get back into the game as he was sick of being a citizen who had to hide. The more intriguing parts of this episode were featured in Raylan and Winona's chemistry of looking at the baby photo, talking about a house, and above all Raylan's question to Boyd of what that makes him as a man since Boyd is really the closest thing that Raylan has to a good friend even though they are on opposite sides of the law. Good episode, and I miss the Detroit Gangster who so thoroughly made an impression last week, please bring him back for some more.moreless

All of that hope that I got after watching the season premiere was lost on me tonight. A bit too complex a B storyline and just a really boring one at that. The writing was weak, no one was on top of their acting game, Justified just did not do their best tonight. Too procedural of this show when it needs to more episodic to establish itself.
