A Girl's Best Friend
AIRED:
For years Sarah Jane Smith travelled through space and time with the Timelord, the Doctor. When they were forced to part Sarah returned to Earth, however before they went their separate ways Sarah asked the Doctor never to forget her. Six days before Christmas, Sarah arrives in the village of Moreton in Gloucestershire. However, Sarah suspects something is not quite right when her Aunt Lavina has gone missing, seemingly a victim to the local coven. Worshippers of the pagan goddess Hecate gather in a local churchyard, promising death to unbelievers. Sarah sets out to find the truth to this mystery but is confronted with a wall of silence from the villagers. Sarah is not alone in this quest, as the Doctor has sent her a present: a dog by the name of K9.moreless

It doesn't get off to a very good start does it, what with those dreadful title scenes and music. But deep down at its heart, k9 and Company is a great little show. If you look at it as a Doctor Who filler, then sure, it doesn't compare to the classics like Talons of Weng-Chiang or Stones of Blood whicvh clearly influenced this production. K9 is production is JNT at his most pro-Who desperate at this period to create a new universe of terrors for the Doctor, before later losing all this enthuisasm during the late 1980's when he was just desperate to escape the show altogether. He has created a world that works. For a change, Sarah feels like an adult, and bonds well with her perfecly cast aunt, altough there is a lack of chemistry between her and her nephew Brendon. I really can't see how this would have worked as a series, because all plot threads are wrapped at the climax, but it is interesting to see Sarah once again. Book me in for another appointment with her and k9 during 2006.moreless
