Prior to the casting of Kate Mulgrew, actresses Brenda Vaccaro and Carol Wayne had both been considered for the role of Kate. Vaccaro instead ended up starring as Sgt. Kate Hudson in "Dear Detective", another short-lived detective drama that debuted the same year.
The series' producer, Fred Silverman, apparantly discovered Kate Mulgrew when he saw her guest star as a country singer on an episode of "Dallas" named 'Triangle' in 1978.
Kate Mulgrew received a Golden Globe nomination as Best TV Actress for her work in the series.
This episode captured thirty-four percent of the national viewing audience and ranked eighteenth among all prime time shows that week.
At this point, the series was named 'Mrs. Columbo'.
This is a two hour pilot episode.
