  • Da Kath and Kim Code is the 2005 telemovie and Christmas special from the Kath and Kim series.

    5.0
In it; Christmas is coming and Kim and Brett's relationship is once again on the rocks, Kath and Kel are torn apart when Kath becomes infatuated with Michael Bublé and Sharon starts an internet relationship, determined not to spend Christmas alone. This is probably the only time anyone will ever say this but the creators Jane Turner and Gina Riley should've taken a leaf out of South Park creators; Trey Parker and Matt Stone's book that you should release a movie based on a TV show when the show is at its best. They did and the South Park movie was a success, Da Kath and Kim Code was released when the show was creaky and the movie is even more so. The frequent ties with the Da Vinci Code are absurd and unnecessary and the jokes are never laugh out loud, not even when Sharon provides us with her illustrious physical comedy. Good points however are the star – studded cameos from a range of stars like The Wiggles to a subdued Barry Humphries all of which are great apart from a robotic Michael Bublé. Popular recurring characters Prue and Trude who would normally be restricted to hilarious small parts in the series are very prominent in the movie and although their accents and snobbishness are funny for a scene their numerous appearances just add to the movie's general inability to amuse. In conclusion; Da Kath and Kim Code is a disappointing movie adaptation of the hit series although it's not hideous the formula is wearing thin and fresh jokes and ideas are needed fast.moreless

    • Kim: Oh, look, Mum. Another present I got for Epponnee. It's the bath book version of "The Da Vinci Code".
      Kath: [laughs] Ohh!
Kim: Look. It squeaks when you press the albino.

    • Kim: Brett is now the official Cumputa City floater.
Kath: Oh! A floater. Well, what does that pacifically entail, Kim?
Kim: Well, Brett sort of explained it like he's kind of like an octopus. You know, spreading his testicles over all departments.
Kath: Oh, that sounds like a big job.

    • Kath: I'm thinking of becoming a franchisee.
Kim: Well, you look like a chimpanzee (Kath is wearing a fur coat, eating a bannana, holding onto a christmas tree, and scratching her armpit).

    • Kath: I wouldn't be playing the cold shoulder all too often with Brett, you know, Kim. The way he's presenting himself at the moment, he's a most irresistible package.
Kim: Mum, Brett is not having an affair. Why would he go for fillet steak when he's got sausage meat at home? (Receives a text from Sharon telling her about Brett kissing Kelly) Brett had fillet steak last night!
Kim: Stuiped Sharron! (To Epponnee) Mummy is a hornbag isn't she?
      Epponnee: (Baby talking way) Nuh
Kim: Little B- You said your first word!

    • Kim: Sharon! What have you come as?
Sharon: Well, this is my Polish national costume, Kim - why?
Kim: No! I said pole dancing!
Sharon: Well I'm a Pole, Kim! Strzelecki. Well, half a Pole anyway, on my dad's side.
Kim: NO! Sexy dancing with a pole!
Sharon: Well, that sounds a bit stupid, Kim.
Kim: Oh, it's stupid, is it? So are the people on Big Brother stupid? 'Cause they all do pole dancing.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Barry Humphries A.K.A Dame Edna Everage, who stars in this episode towards the end, has Christmas Dinner with the main cast. His charecter has recently come to Melbourne and when asked what he thought of Australia, he passed comment that upon entering the city and country he felt unnerving but when he saw the global corporations, like shops, and his skepticism and restlessness vanished. Humpries in past interviews such as the South Bank show, has past comment that he thought Australia lacked its individuality and that its global designs and brands of building and companies was causing that (in the conversation IKEA is mentioned). The point of his comment at the dinner table was that as a tourist the highlights of his visit to Australia was the global brands and produdcts, nothing unique to Australia.
