  • The title signifies what the show is getting.

In it; Mother Kath and daughter Kim are gripped with paranoia; Kath believes that she's too old for her boyfriend Phil and Kim thinks her long - suffering husband Craig is cheating on her. Sound familiar? That's because the plot is an exact copy of the Australian version which adds predictability to the already present inability to amuse. While not much about the episode can be said without me appearing to be insulting your intelligence, I'll go over the show in general. What made the Australian version work was the comedic chemistry between Kath and Kim providing many laughs. This formula is totally absent here; Selma Blair and Molly Shannon are nearly the same age and never work as a Mother/Daughter pairing and they never even seem like they're talking too each other, they just happen to be saying things within their respective ranges of hearing. The character of Kim is supposed to be unattractive physically as well as unattractive as a person and since Selma Blair is clearly pleasing to the eye they really piled on the whininess and insolence, making her the least sympathetic person on TV since Mr. Burns. This is the most extreme example of the show just being unfair to the brilliant cast.

It would be untrue for me to claim I didn't laugh at all during the episode (laugh being an umbrella term that could mean a belly laugh, giggle, smirk or a momentary break from misery), but many of the jokes relied on the same set - up of someone talking about something and then being distracted by something silly. The longer it stayed on screen - outlasting its welcome by a considerable amount - the less amusing it was. After a promising beginning, it crashes and burns. It's not enough that the Writer's Guild went on strike that many thought would be permanent and some good shows have been cancelled recently but keeping Kath and Kim on is really just an insult to the good name of TV. It's time to go.moreless
  • Getting into its stride

After a lame pilot show and a much improved second outing, this comedy is finally hitting the mark and getting into what I can only hope will be a taste of what is to come.

I suspect too much need to remain faithful to the Aussie roots damaged show 1, too many cooks spoiling the broth. This show had all the essence of Kath and Kim Australia but brought bang up to date and given a far wittier edge.

Sharper scripts and some great physical comedy. This is where it needed to be from the opener. I hope it isn't too late to save it.

    Watch it!moreless

    • Kim: You're like Heather Mills on Dancing with the Stars. You're trying to dance on one leg.

This is a reference to the fourth season on the American celebrity dance competition Dancing with the Stars. During that season, which aired in Spring 2007, Heather Mills, a English former model, competed wearing a prosthetic leg. She was the 5th celebrity eliminated that season.

    • Step Up 2: The Streets

Parts of the dancing at the club between Kath and Phil were similar to the movie Step Up 2: The Streets, such as the heart pumping move Phil does to Kath.
