  • Kath Day is surprised when her daughter Kim shows up unexpectedly, and declares she is moving back in. Kath is not too thrilled, especially since she hasn't told Kim about her new boyfriend Phil.moreless

I really don't like the fact that people keep criticizing this show, measuring it up to the Australian version it is based on. If it were anything close to the Aussie show it was based on, it would still be criticized as an un-original and a rip-off of the original series. This show had no chance before it even aired in some people's minds, and I want to say to them, to just give this show a chance. Bottom line is that this is a very funny show. The actors are doing a great job in their portrayal of self-observed jerks, who seem unaffected in anything but their own lives. I don't care how far fetched these over the top personalities seem to be, because normal people are boring to watch.moreless

The series premiere of Kath & Kim was very disappointing. I found it very little funny and just plain dumb. It has potential and I will keep watching but if the next episode isn't better than I quit this show. Kath's daughter Kim comes to her mom's house to move back in after she tells her that she getting a divorce from her new marriage. Kath gets mad at her and tell her she has to work through it. Kim then finds out that Kath has a boyfriend and then later when Kath and Kim are at the mall he breaks up with Kath. I found this episode okay. Not the best. Not really funny, I think I laughed once.moreless

I admit I am a big fan of the original Australian series - because it was REALLY GOOD! This pale imitation doesn't deserve airtime, and was not even remotely funny. They go through the motions of the real pilot episode, but without the laughs or the wit I came to expect.

Needless to say I will not be following this series, and I expect to hear about its cancellation soon, preferably right after it has aired on all the networks tonight! Not worth the time or effort to lift the remote control.

Why do American t.v. producers insist on creating dumbed-down programs based on a real original which is far more deserving? Do they believe that Americans are so stupid that they won't get it? I have to believe that isn't the case, but this makes me really wonder about the kind of total disrespect they have for their viewers!moreless

    • Several names have been changed for the US version. Kath and Kim keep their first names, but are now known as Kath Day, instead of Kath Day-Knight, and Kim Day, instead of Kim Craig. Also, Craig Barker was Brett Craig and Phil Knight was Kel Knight in the original version. Edit
    • Goof: Kath wonders if she shouldn't have drank so many sodas with aspartame while pregnant with Kim, but also says that she put up with Kim for 27 years, meaning she was pregnant in 1980. Aspartame was not approved for use in beverages until 1983. Edit
    • Despite Selma Blair playing Molly Shannon's daughter on the show, in real life there is less than an eight year age difference between the two actresses. Shannon was born on September 16, 1964 and Blair was born on June 23, 1972. Edit
