  • Hyacinth loves to have little 'functions' to which she invites family and friends and the idea of a picnic by the river is very appealing indeed.

    "Great"
In this hilariously funny episode, Hyacinth decides that she will play hostess at a riverside picnic to which she will invite family and friends. Naturally, she has to take everything but the kitchen sink with her, so that includes tables, chairs, china, eskies and a ton of food.

It's most unfortunate that Hyacinth spends so much time organising things and yet they still go wrong for her! In this case, she has everyone carrying everything while she searches for the 'perfect spot' to hold the picnic. What is even more unfortunate is that she ends up taking an unexpected 'bath' in the water and has to be rowed upstream, past all of her astonished guests, waving like the late Queen Mother!

Very, very funny - watch it and you'll see why!moreless

A Riverside Picnic is my all time favourite epidode of Keeping Up Appearences. Hyacinth decides that she must have 'a riverside picnic with riparian entertainment', at the expensicve of everyones sanity and health. She determinedly leads Richard, Elizabeth and Emmett, all loaded down with picnic tables, chairs, the Royal Doultan with hand-painted periwinkles and eskies, on a long hike to a spot she has chosen. Of course, nothing goes as planned and Daisy, Onslow and Rose are there to witness the fun.The last scene, as a drenched but dignified Hyacinth waves Queenlike,as she is rowed past them, is the very essence of who she imagines herself to be... Mrs Hyacinth Bouquet.moreless
