Hyacinth and Richard have been invited by Onslow and Daisy to join in on the family celebrations for Onslow's birthday. Initially, Hyacinth is very much against attending until she learns that Rose's new wealthy Greek gentleman friend, Mr. Marinopolous, will be taking them there in his limo!

Intent on impressing the obviously wealthy Greek, Hyacinth insists on purchasing a suitably expensive but tasteful gift for the birthday boy and settles upon a pair of gold, engraved cufflinks, the choice of which has poor Richard reeling, not only because of the cost, but also because he can't see the point in buying cufflinks for someone who never wears a shirt!

On the big day, Hyacinth decides to have some pre-luncheon cocktails at her home and allow her friends and neighbours to be suitably impressed and envious when the wealthy Greek (and his posh vehicle!) arrives to pick them up. Things, however, do not go to plan when the 'limosouine' tuns out to be a hearse and all of the guests keep bowing their heads to show respect for the dead! Needless to say, it's a foregone conclusion that Hyacinth is livid and embarrassed and absolutely determined that the cufflinks are going BACK to the jewellers!
