  • Hyacinth at the sea - beware! Is any ship strong enough to endure her being on board?

    9.5
    "Superb"
To Emmet's eternal sorrow, QE2 is indeed strong enough to carry Hyacinth back home - as soon as she gets on board the ship.

The simple task of driving to the harbor is not as easy as one might think when Mrs. Bucket - Bouquet - is handing out directions. For the very first time, though, Richard somehow manages to order his wife to push the car - and I'm sure that's some kind of compensation for hauling Hyacinth's luggage all over Scandinavia.

When they finally reach the ship - taking a little side-trip to Denmark in order to do that - Hyacinth is determined to apologize to the captain in person. Only, someone from her family got there first: Daisy and Onslow are on board the QE2 as well. This, of course, results in Hyacinth believing they are stow aways.

Altogether an entertaining episode. At least twice as long as the usual episodes, and it manages to hold quite well to the usual atmosphere and structure of the other show.moreless

  • Hyacinth and Richard set sail for a luxury cruise on board the QE2 with enough luggage to almost literally sink the ship but there are a few hiccups along the way in this almost faultless special episode.moreless

Not that Hyacinth likes to brag ... but she finds it necessary to tell absolutely everyone that she and Richard are heading to sea for a cruise on the luxury liner the QE2. Not only is Richard worried about the costs involved but also how on earth he is going to fix the massive amount of luggage in the car!

Driving to South Hampton to board the ship, Hyacinth navigates and, naturally, they get lost and miss the boat completely so it's necessary for them to fly to Copenhagen to meet up with it there. Poor Richard is exhausted from dealing with the luggage but Hyacinth is too busy thinking about dining at the captain's table and other such things reserved for 'special' guests such as herself.

When they are finally on board, Hyacinth is pleased with their cabin but is somewhat displeased when she sees none other than Onslow and Daisy climbing out of a lifeboat, obviously having stowed away due to jealousy!

Hyacinth instructs Richard to pay their fares so that they aren't clappd in irons or something similar but Richard is just about out of money. Imagine Hyacinth's shock when she finds that she and Richard are NOT seated at the captain's table because it is reserved for those travelling First Class. The qustion is, what are Onslow and Daisy doing sitting there as bold as brass if that is the case?

Determined to find out what is going on, Hyacinth and Richard dress like joggers (her idea) and begin to search the ship from top to bottom and happening to glance in at the captain's cocktail party when they do so - and there are Onslow and Daisy! Hyacinth will not rest until she knows exactly what the situation is and instructs Richard to find out at once. When he tells her that Onslow and Daisy are on board offically after Onslow won first prize in a newspaper competition, the prize for which was a luxury cruise with all the trimmings!

Hyacinth is jealous and furious but she is determined to mak things work in her favour later that evening when she partners Onslow in an energetic display of dancing!

Hilarious from start to finish. I can't fault it.moreless

One of the best ''Keeping Up Apperances'' specials ever. Seeing Hyacinth drag poor Richard all over the town then throw the country side where they have car problems and finally they get to there cruise to wreck havoc on the Queen Elizabeth 2. My grandmother got me into this series and this special was worth watching for any fan of the show. It also lasts longer then an average episode so this gives you more to watch. So to wrap it up this was one of the best episodes of the show ever, and if you are just getting interested with the show or if you are a life long fan this is the episode to watch.moreless

    • Onslow: So, then, this purser chap came up to the cabin and said we're on the captain's table. And I thought, "Blimey!" I mean, you win a competition, you get a luxury cruise, and then they expect you to eat with the crew! Edit
    • Hyacinth: I shall appear to the captain personally. Throw myself on his mercy. I shall explain to him that my sister has lapses of common sense. Richard: Does she? Hyacinth: She married Onslow, didn't she? Edit
    • Hyacinth: It's Onslow and Daisy. They're here! Richard: Well, how can they be here? Hyacinth: Well, they are. I've just seen them...climbing out of a lifeboat. They must have stowed away. Edit
