Daisy and Onslow's daughter Stephanie is having her baby christened. When her car breaks down, Hyacinth and Richard volunteer to go pick her up and bring her to the church, but they are unprepared for what awaits them.
  • Daisy and Onslow's daughter, Stephanie, has had a baby and it's time for the Christening!

    "Fair"
Hyacinth and Richard are attending the Christening of their great-niece, Kylie, the baby daughter of Daisy and Onslow's daughter, Stephanie. Hyacinth is not only unimpressed with the name ('Kylie - what kind of a name is that for a Church of England person?') but also with the fact that Stephanie has had the baby out of wedlock. These difficulties aside, Hyacinth agrees, reluctantly,to attend. She is very pleased that her sister, Violet, will be in attendance with her husband, Bruce and their new Mercedes!

The English weather, predictably, means that the ceremony doesn't get off to a great start, most particularly as, while everyone else is congregated at the church, there is no sign of Stephanie, the baby or the baby's father. Eventually, the news that the reason for their absense is a broken down car reaches the assembled company and Richard and Hyacinth take it upon themselves to go and collect the stranded group.

Hyacinth is less than impressed when they find that the 'car' is in fact a hippie van and that of the two young man present, neither they nor Stephanie herself are actually sure who the biological father is!

The usual hilarity is present in good measure in this episode which marked the end of season 1 of the show. Definitely worth a look!moreless
  • We meet stephanie , Onslow and Daisy's

    "Good"
Onslow's and Daisy's Daughter, Stephanie is having little girl christened. Hyacinth is annoyed that Stephanie is unmarried and that she named her child Kyliegh(Hyacinth thinks Kyliegh sounds too much like a fruit).
Richard tells her she should be happy that Stephanie is having the child christened.
Meanwhile at Daisy's, everybody is trying all dolled up for
the big day. Onslow is in a suit.( An old one, but it looks very nice on him.)(Daisy is in nice dress , trying finish curling her hair.)
Finally when everybody gets to the church, everyone is already there, except Stephanie & Family. The vicar gets a phone call from her, stating that their van has broken down very close to the church and they need a ride.
Richard and Hyacinth volunteer to go look for them and soon spot a huge dirty with two hot skinny ,long-haired blonde guys wearing rippy pants and plaid shirts.Hyacinth wants to keep goin, but soon realizes that is Stephanie and family. Richard helps the two guys fix the van, but then R AND H'S
car conks out so they have to ride with Stephanie and the guys who are both Stephanie boyfriends.(She's not sure who is the father and fools around with both of them.) I like the actress who played Stephanie looked like a younger ,thinner version of Daisy and had beautiful ,curly brown hair.)
They finally get to the church and the baby is christened.
Hyacinth is in a sour mood the rest of the day, because she had to ride in a van with people who she finds very beneath her. Personally, I think Hyacinth is jealous that Onslow and Daisy are grandparents and deep down she knows Sheridan will never have a wife and kids.)
This episode kind of reminded me of Everybody Loves Raymond in the way that they could take such a simple thing and make it so realistic and funny at the same time.moreless

  • QUOTES (4)

    ADD QUOTES
    • Onslow: Is there any beer? Daisy: You're not having any beer til after the christening. Onslow: It's supposed to be a celebration, not a famine. Daisy, I really need a beer on account that your Hyacinth will be here any minute. Daisy: You're right. We'll both have a beer.

    • Hyacinth: What sort of a name is Kylie for a Christian person? It sounds like a foreign vegetable.

    • Rose: Is Onslow up yet? Daisy: I shouted him an hour ago. Rose: Ooh, that's cutting it fine. You know he needs at least two. (runs to the stairs that lead upstairs and yells up to Onslow) Onslow! Onslow (yelling down to Rose): Have you seen me clean shirt? Rose (yelling to Daisy): Daisy, where's Onslow's clean shirt? Daisy (yelling to Rose): How am I supposed to remember? He never wears a shirt. Rose (yelling up to Onslow): How is she supposed to remember? You never wear a shirt. Onslow (yelling down to Rose): I do on formal occasions. Rose (yelling to Daisy): He does on formal occasions. Daisy (yelling to Rose): Has he tried looking in the wardrobe? Rose (yelling up to Onslow): Have you tried looking in the wardrobe? Onslow (yelling down to Rose): I hope her lass isn't going to start having babies every year. Rose (yelling to Daisy): He hopes your lass isn't… (frustrated) Oh!

    • Richard: Is this tie all right? Hyacinth: For where we're going any tie's a novelty. Richard: It's no good being like that about it. It's a family occasion. The thing is to make the best of it. Anyway, I always think there's something rather nice about a Christening. Hyacinth: There's something even nicer if there's been a wedding first.
