That's Kim/Shego for those of you who aren't familiar. I'd like to have a rational, level-headed discussion about this. No flames, just a discussion. Note that this discussion need not be confined to the show; we can cross over into fanfiction if necessary.

I for one think it could happen. It's a bit of a stretch, but art requires the willful suspension of disbelief. Read some of the stuff done by King in Yellow to get an idea of the seriousness some people are willing to grant this pairing. KiGo works are the most written of all fanfictions, and have spawned a rather rabid and flame-happy fanbase.

And besides, who doesn't like lesbians? The United States Army (ironically) did a study of its enlisted members to see if they were "normal" or "deviant." One of the questions was, "Do you like lesbian porn?" If the subject answered yes, then they were considered "normal." I just found that interesting.

The stories I've read about this are some of the most artistic and psychologically deep I have ever seen, even more so than some K/R stories. A lot of people are very serious about this pairing, and I just wanted to know all of your thoughts. Please note that this thread will be locked if the discussion gets out of hand, but I hope it doesn't come to that. I think that all people are capable of mature, rational discussion, and I don't want to be proven wrong on that front. Let's start the debate.

Okay, I guess I should have mentioned that I expect anyone who votes to actually post something. Thank you.

I just don't see it based on the characters.  Both are complete enemies and one or the other would have to completely change for the relationship to work.  I know I did one KIGO work, but I did that just for the challenge of it.  Both MrDrP and I did KIGO works and then stopped as both of us just don't see it happening.

Yeah. I write K/R myself, but something about KiGo makes for a darn good read in my opinion. Still, I can see your point. It's not so much the relationship that I like as the quality of some of the fics. KiY is an awesome writer, no matter who he ships.

I usually always love your stories, beeftony, but this time I have to disagree.

I don't really like the whole KiGo thing.

But I'm still a man as well as the other guys. I like lesbians, and Kim and Shego are both attractive. But they don't really fit together. Bonnie and Shego, that could be something...

Didn't you write a Bonnie/Shego, Captain? No, wait, that was MrDrP.

Okay, so the concensus so far is that KiGo is highly unlikely and a major change would be required before they would end up in bed together. What this approach always ignores is that people have been able to craft entire series' out of this pairing, such as KiY and his "Best Enemies" universe, which has been nominated for several awards.

In the words of Euripides: "Short is the joy that guilty pleasure brings." While KiGo fics are more or less enjoyable as a one-shot fantasy, this is about as far as authors could carry it before authors like KiY. If there's one thing reading his work has shown me, it's that we can't be too quick to make judgements about something without considering all sides of the issue. And that's all I'm doing. I am neither for nor against KiGo, but so far this debate seems kind of one-sided. Let's hear what the KiGo shippers have to say.

Remember, this isn't just the show we're discussing. This can cross over into fanfiction as well.

Still, you bring up an interesting point. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but Hobnob-rev over at ffnet seems convinced that the creators have had KiGo in the back of their minds, they just aren't willing to push it (imagine the angry mothers). That's why it's only found in the wonderful world of fanfiction.

Hmm, somebody voted "Hell Yes." You mind telling us why? It would be nice to hear another side of the debate instead of me just playing the devil's advocate.

You do support homosexuality?  Spell Check doesn't catch everything. And which religion, if you don't mind my asking. You don't have to answer, I'm just curious. I'm Christian myself, but I hear Judaism allows for same-sex marriage.

I'm straight, but I have never had anything against gays and lesbians. I just don't see how the issue affects me.

So regardless of personal and religious beliefs, does anybody else think they've got a shot, or am I just playing the devil's advocate here?

Well iff women want to be lesbians, that's their choice. I don't think there's anything evil on it, but on the other hand, I'm not too religious myself. I understand all people.

Er-hem, anyway, I voted for "I just can't see it" because it's true, I can't really picture the KiGo thing in my mind...

I couldn't either at first, then I read Best Enemies by King in Yellow. He has a background in multiple religions, and a psychologist for a father, so he's fairly deep. They don't even get into bed in this one, and the characterizations are very well done. While slightly OOC (what KiGo isn't?), it feels more like a natural progression than a sudden change in character. He really outdid himself in creating a psychological environment in which KiGo would be a possibility, and I think it's at least worth checking out, even if you don't agree with it. I still can't picture it fully.

The work of his that I recommend the most is Cognitive Dissonance. I'm leaving a series of reviews on that one, and those alone are worth checking out. He continues Kim's natural progression from immature teenager to mature lesbian (who'd have ever thought that would be the thing to help her grow up?). For those of you who do not know what cognitive dissonance is, it is essentially two opposing thoughts that cannot both be true at the same time. And believe me, I experienced more than my fair share of CD while reading this series.

Over time, though, I grew to accept KiGo as a possibility. I'm still a K/R shipper, but my fascination with KiGo makes me neutral on the ship wars. All I'm saying is give it a chance and don't write it off based on prejudice. Let the work speak for itself, then judge. That is the mark of a true critic.

Well, those stories were good...I have to leave a rewiew as well...

My first KiGo experience was when I read Yet another KiGo fic or something like that. Sorry I don't have a link. But I remember reading the rewiews, and people were already pretty upset to the KiGo thing.

Care to give us a reason beyond simple prejudice and personal beliefs? I honestly thought we could have a rational discussion about this but obviously I was wrong. Don't write something off without giving it a fair chance to speak for itself. Just because something disgusts you doesn't mean that it can't be judged on its own merits. Art requires the willing suspension of disbelief, which a lot of people here seem unwilling to grant it. Please, don't post here unless logic and reason are the sole basis of your argument. I don't want to hear it. And no, that doesn't make me closed-minded, it makes you closed-minded. Personal feelings or not, an idea must stand on its own merits. If you are unwilling to grant it that, then your opinion is not welcome here.

Once again, why? Give us reasons, people.

Okay, so most people seem to dislike the idea, but captainkodak1, Zokolov, and myself are the only ones willing to offer a substantial argument for or against it. Others either say how much they hate it or just vote and don't post.

    Here's my argument:

I believe KiGo to be possible based on the  nature of the people who like KiGo. While this seems like a stretch at first, we must remember that KiGo fans are often KiGo writers and this stuff makes its way into their stories. They seem convinced that a long time physical rivalry is a sign of attraction, a sort of begrudging respect among opponents that over time grows to love. I have seen it, and it works. It works because they make it work.

That said, they couldn't have done so if there wasn't something there to begin with. The signs are there on the show, one simply has to be willing to look for it. While in reality it would probably stop at an affair, there is a definite vibe if one looks hard enough.

So don't write KiGo off on the basis that "it's absurd." People have been able to craft entire series out of it, which they wouldn't have if there wasn't some sort of chemistry there already. All I'm saying is consider both sides of the issue and make an informed decision. If you don't, you're just being childish and silly.
