Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • OK Episode.

This episode is OK. It has funny moments (especially the "explode boy" scene). However, it is not one of the classic ones. It is boring in spots and is kind of a filler episode. I think even though the writers are trying to make a point, they went pretty extreme as it isn't THAT bad for girls gym. Overall a decent episode, but nothing spectacular.
  • Bobby Slam features Bobby and Conn Jr. competing for a spot on the school's athletic team and their parents trying to do the right thing in the meanwhile.

Bobby Slam is an excellent episode in that both Bobby and Connie know what's wrong with all the adults responsible for them and they still roll with the punches. Bobby has finally gotten a spot on a real sporting team at his school (finally) and when he's finally gaining popularity with the guys on the team, Peggy-with-a-Y Hill butts-in and demands that girls get the equal opportunity to compete for a spot on the boys wrestling team. The coach gets overly upset at the idea a a female on the boys team, because he has a low opinion of women anyway, and he decides to boot-out Bobby Hill in retribution. Tune in to watch the sparks fly.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • The whole set up of Bobby's room is wrong. It shows the door right across from the TV, but in all other episodes it is along a wall that is on the right when someone enters. The bed is still across from the TV, however, it is close to the closet as suppose to the other wall.

    • Tagline: "Ooh, that's gotta hurt!" -Coach. The tagline is in the voice of the coach however, in the actual episode it is Clark Peters that says it.

    • At the beginning of the episode, it appears as if Peggy comes from the wall where the TV is in Bobby's room, but the TV is across from the door.

    • According to Hank, Bobby used to have a frog. However, he said that Connie killed it. Although he was joking in order for that to be believable by Bobby it would mean that he had it after Connie moved in. There was never any mention on the show that he had a frog.

    • Clark Peters is clearly a member of the wrestling team, but when the coach is assigning matches by last name for the upcoming meet, we never hear him say the name "Peters." Also, when they show the board with all the match ups his name is not there either.

    • Bobby and Connie could not possibly have been paired up for a wrestle off. They go by weight classes, and there is no way Bobby and Connie are in the same weight class.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • (Bobby has just excitedly told Hank that he has made the Wrestling team, the 'best sport ever!' because it doesn't involve running)
Hank: This is through the school, right? Not some guy in a van with a camcorder?

    • Kahn: Remember - take old playmate down hard and fast. Mom capture everything on video camera include it in Harvard application.
Connie: Dad, I'm not even in high school yet.
Kahn: And you never get there with that attitude!

    • Connie: Can we just pretend I never said anything about this wrestling thing?
Kahn: No! I went out on giant limb for you, Kahn Junior. You lose, you no longer my son!

    • Peggy: Oh please Hank. Did a woman ruin the supreme court.
Hank: Yes, a woman did, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

    • Dale: Wrestling a girl – that's a tough one Bobby. If you win, you get the shame of having beat up a girl. If you lose, you just better hope she snaps your neck – that's the quickest way.
Boomhauer: Yeah man, dang ol', danged if you do, danged if you don't, man (mumble).
Bobby: Dad! What am I gonna do? I'm danged here! I'm royally danged!

  • NOTES (0)

    • Earl Warren is a famous Chief Justice whose name is used for the Warren Commission.

    • Roe v. Wade (1973) is one of history's most famous cases. It opened up the debate on abortion.

    • The title is a pun of Body slam, a well-known move used in professional wrestling.

    • Connie: I wanna go to a party school - Chico State, yeaaahhh!

Connie is referring to the reputation of California State University in Chico, California. The school gained it's reputation after Playboy compiled two lists of America's top party schools - one in 1987, one in 2002. Chico State ranked first on the 1987 list, and second in 2002.
