Episode Summary

To teach his son the value of a dollar, Hank makes Bobby get a job selling drinks at the racetrack, and tells Bobby to do everything his boss says. Boomhauer competes for the right to drive the pace car in the NASCAR race.

Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Monkey Boy!

Another fine instalment of KOTH. Jimmy Witchard is a classic character who gets introduced in this episode. It's not really known if he is just dumb, or if he actually has a developmental issue in his brain, but what is known is that he always is good for a lot of laughs. He really is the reason this episode is so fantastic, as the general plot line is only decent, and the other characters (minus Luanne) are not as funny as they usually are. Although, I do think the best line was "If you weren't my son, I'd hugmoreless
  • Life in the Fast Lane: Bobby's Saga gives every one of the guys a little time in the sun, even young Bobby this time. Hank shows how responsible he has been in the upbringing of "his boy" and now he'll learn the value of a dollar.moreless

Life int the Fast Lane: Bobby's Saga is a very serious look at the pitfalls of parenthood and marriage. While Bobby thinks that Jeff Gordon is just a cerial box model; Hank thinks working at the race track will give the boy a little horse-sense in the budget/work ethic department. Meanwhile, Bill, Hank and Boomhauer are busy at the Nascar track doing something of a dream-job; Boomhauer is trying to fix up his car because he's been invited to be the pace car! When Bobby starts working for Jimmy Wichert (a complete moron that Dale and Hank remember from Highschool)he runs into some difficulties due to Jimmy's lack of everyday common sense. Young Bobby complains to Hank, but Hank just chalks it up to a kid balking at the prospect of actual hard work for once in his life. Tune in for an eye opener!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Bobby: Jeff Gordon's a race car driver, too!??! I thought he was just a cereal box guy!

    • Dale(About Jimmy): People say he fried his brain one day just staring at the sun. Course, he couldn't have been too smart to do that in the first place -- kind of a chicken/egg thing.

    • Luanne: So okay, we wave this sign around, and Jeff Gordon sees it. Then, he comes up to us in the stands and is so taken by our charms, that he asks one of us to marry him.
Peggy: Well, honey, it probably won't be me. I have got a ring on my finger.
      Luanne: Yeah, and big feet.

    • Jimmy: How would you wanna be my go-to-guy?
      Bobby: That's me!
Jimmy: Okay, first, you go to the men's room and mop out the unirals; then, you go to my cigarettes in my car; then, go to back here.

    • Hank: Bobby, I know we've never talked about this, but some day, I'm going to die. And when that happens, then you can go to cooking school.

    • Bobby: I like Jeff Gordon, he's handsome.
Hank: Uh, huh huh huh, Bobby, you joke around like that in public, people are gonna think you ain't right.

    • Hank: Bobby, these checks aren't magic tickets. They represent real money that I -- and to a lesser extent your mother -- worked real hard to earn.

    • Hank: My dad didn't buy me a car when I turned 16 -- he sold me one, and it was a lemon. Taught me the value of a dollar.

    • Jimmy: (to Bobby) Do it, you... you... monkey boy! I'm the boss of you!

    • Hank: Bobby, if you weren't my son, I'd hug you.

  • NOTES (3)

    • The licence plate of the cop in the race was "ENTRAP", which is most likely short for entrapment. Entrapment is when police get someone to commit a crime that they wouldn't have done if not for the police, which is essentially what he did to Boomhauer in the opening scene.
