Peggy and Bobby Hill attempting to retrieve the large U.S. flag from Bill's garage at night are surprised to see that the flag is still flying and Bill is installing powerful lighting to illuminate the flag after sunset. This is indeed correct protocol for displaying the flag at night. Although played as somewhat of a buffoon among the regulars, Bill knows his business when it comes to the flag. Additionally, Bill's normally scruffy yard now features the flagpole with a very nice little flowered hedge planted around a small stone garden and a bird bath.
