This was a pretty decent episode, and one which shows how Bobby reacts when people rely on him. This really just further shows how much different he is from Hank, who seems to strive under pressure. It had a great Bobby/Hank moment at the end, but sadly it had a lot of Peggy being annoying moments too. It was kind of funny, but more just entertaining than actually humorous. Overall it was just a decent episode.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • Tagline: "Or the films of M. Night Shyamalamalan." -Dale

    • Luanne does not appear in this episode.

    • When Bobby is in his room watching the "pop up" video after his first Quiz Bowl competition, the song playing is a 4-Skore song from Season 7 episode "Get Your Freak Off".

    • Hank says "if we [Americans, presumably] hadn't been stressed about the Nazis taking over Europe, we wouldn't have fought World War II." The United States didn't get involved in World War II because the Nazis were invading European countries. That started in 1939. The Americans didn't get involved until 1941, after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

    • In the first Quiz Bowl scene, the first questioned asked by the Quizmaster is "-273 degrees Kelvin is also known as what?" Chane responds with "absolute zero" and is told he is correct. There are a couple of things wrong with this. First, the word 'degrees' is never used when referring to Kelvin. Secondly, absolute zero is -273.15 Celsius, which equals 0 Kelvin. So the question should really be "-273.15 degree Celsius is also know as what?" or "0 Kelvin is also know as what?" In this way, "absolute zero", would be a correct response.

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Peggy (as Bobby is being touted as the key to Team Tom Landry winning the competition): Just think. If I hadn't sat him in front of the T.V. to keep him from crying, we wouldn't be here today.

    • Hank (feeding the hummingbirds): Perfect. Four parts water, one part sugar.
      Bill: Got any leftovers?

    • Bill: How does it feel to be the father of a genius?
Hank: Bobby's a good kid, but he's no genius. We've got the report cards to prove it.

    • Teacher: Bobby, you were supposed to research an actual president. Martin Sheen is an actor.
Bobby: Oh, yeah? Tell that to the fifty million people he helped with his poverty bill.

    • Bobby: Do sweeps start this week or next?
Hank: I don't know what that means.

    • Hank: Stress isn't bad, Bobby. Heck, if we weren't stressed about the Nazis taking over Europe, we would never have fought World War Two.

    • Hank: Bobby gets so many dang magazines. Couldn't at least one of them have a picture of a car or a fish on it?

    • Hank (to Peggy about Bobby): You're serving him breakfast in bed? Breakfast was the one motivation he had to leave his room.

    • Chane: Why would we want Booby Hill on our team? So the other teams make fun of us?
Connie: They already make fun of us because YOU don't know the atomic weight of lithium.

    • Bobby: Dad, I joined the Academic Club!
Hank: Academic Club? Is that a fancy way of saying you need to go to study hall?

    • Bobby: I was supposed to be in Chess Club, but they kicked me out. If they don't want you to double jump, they shouldn't play it on a checkerboard!

  • NOTES (2)

  • ALLUSIONS (5)

    • Bobby mentions Sweeps. This refers to the months of November, February, May and July, where TV networks put out the best episodes of the show to garner more ratings as information is gathered and this local viewing information provides a basis for program scheduling and advertising decisions for local television stations, cable systems, and advertisers.

    • The show Bobby was watching at the beginning of the episode was "Jackass". You can tell because they say the name Steve-O, who is one of the people on the show and are talking about doing stupid stunts.

    • Ben Stein doing the voice of the Quizmaster, might be a play on the fact that he had his own quiz show Win Ben Stein's Money.

    • Bobby: But he's based on the real President Bartlett, right?

Bobby does his history report on Martin Sheen, who he thinks is the President. Martin Sheen plays the President on the NBC drama The West Wing.

    • The three coffee drinkers represent Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Courtney Cox (Monica), and Lisa Kudrow (Pheobe) drinking coffee in Central Perk on the NBC comedy series Friends.
