I just watched this series (quickly because I just loved it and could not stop ) and am dismayed that it ended. Stephen Fry was awesome as Peter Kingdom. People yelled enough about the series "Prison Break" and now it is on for 2016. SO, I want to start yelling about this show. It was clever, entertaining, heart warming, and it should not be over!!!
Kingdom follows the life and business of Peter Kingdom, a solicitor on on the picturesque Norfolk coast. He is accompanied by his unstable sister Beatrice, his junior lawyer Lyle and a host of other regular and guest characters.
Stephen Fry is the perfect choice to plat Peter Kingdom as he has the mix of comedy and drama just right. Karl Davies as Lyle provides some great comedy moments, the doll blowing up on him in a sex shop springs to mind, but like Peter can also be a dramatic character and one which the auience can really sympathie with.
The show also has some great guest stars and fantastic regulars. Peter's Aunt Auriel is brilliant as she is everyhting that you wouldn't expect the resident of an old people's home to be!
The mix of the characters and the not too strenuous storylines makes Kingdom essential viewing.
We discovered Peter Kingdom, (expertly played by Stephen Fry) being joined by his unstable sister, Beatrice, whilst he mourned the loss of his brother whom it was thought drowned himself in the sea. Kingdom is joined in his office by a trainee solicitor, the highly principled Lyle and Gloria his ever trustworthy secretary/agony aunt. Together this group bumble along with through their own troubles whilst assisting members of the public with their legal problems. One common visitor to Kingdom and Kingdom solicitors is Mr Snell, a comedic character whose life's work is to sue anyone and everyone.
This series is categorized as a drama/comedy and in my opinion it is a perfect blend of the two. Mr Snell, Beatrice and Lyle, are classic comedic characters who can bring a smile to your face. The casting of Kingdom is excellent with Stephen Fry, Hermione Norris, Celia Imrie, Tony Slattery and Karl Davies as central characters with great British actors such as Richard Wilson in guest roles. The beautiful background Norfolk scenery is treated almost as a character in itself. These feel good storylines which can often bring a tear to the eye make for perfect Sunday evening viewing or for any other night of the week come to that! I would highly recommend it to anyone!
What a wonderful series Kingdom is and its filmed just down the road (well actually a few miles away) from where i live!
Stephen Fry is excellent as Peter Kingdom and his sister is instantly likable in a batty sort of way.
Also, the woman who plays Gloria (who has appeared in a gazillion other programs) is wonderful as the receptionist.
The Norfolk setting is peferct for this Sunday Evening Drama, and the landscape is beautifully captured in the openinig titles. i am glad a second series is being processed because this is a really good show to curl up and watch!
