    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (3)

    • QUOTES (4)

      • Michael: There's nobody in there.
KITT: That's impossible. A car doesn't drive itself.

      • Michael: (disguising voice) Excuse me, I was wondering it I could get a student loan.
Bonnie: (busy with microscope) I think you're in the wrong department.
Michael: Yeah, well I bet Devon you'd (voice returns to normal) come back in a year and you didn't.

      • Mr. Fong: The fire? Why didn't you ask?
Michael: I tried, but you and the Eggroll Brothers had other things on your mind.

      • Bonnie: You're still tall.
        Michael: You're still beautiful.

    • NOTES (9)

      • The opening credits are unique for this episode and feature shots of KITT from previous seasons so as not to show the new design he would acquire during this episode.

      • After many fans complained when Bonnie was dropped from the series for the 2nd season, Patricia McPherson returns to reprise the role with this story. She would stay for the rest of the show's run. As was the case previously when Bonnie was absent for the second season, what has become of April is not mentioned.

      • The German episode title is "Ein geheimnisvoller Roboter", meaning "A Mysterious Robot". The French episode title is "Le Roi des robots", meaning "King of the Robots". The Czech episode title is "Rytíř robotů", meaning "Knight of Robots".

      • Exterior scenes were filmed on location in San Francisco

      • Music: The Jacksons' "Torture" (cover version)

      • KITT is seriously damaged in this story, calling for Bonnie to practically re-build him. Much of the reason behind this, besides from pulling viewers in to the big season-opener, was that in reality technology was catching up with the series, and the producers wanted to add a new addition of functions to KITT to make sure he stayed on step ahead of real life!

      • The original UK broadcast of this episode, on Thursday 25th October 1984, was not only the most watched episode of that year, but also of the entire series, clocking up 13.1 million viewers. (It is not clear whether that showing was in feature-length of two-part format).

      • Like many other "movie length" episodes of Knight Rider, this episode originally aired as a 2-hour TV movie to kick off the new season. For syndication, it has been broken into two parts. In addition to the normal trims and edits that are made in syndication to allow for extra commercials, the two-part version of this episode has even more cuts than normal to allow for the extra set of credits and the "previously on Knight Rider" sequence.

      • Was the first episode to air following the death of actor Richard Basehart who portrayed Wilton Knight in the series premiere episode Knight of the Phoenix. Basehart was also the narrator and voiceover for the credits.

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • On their way to a dock for Michael's sailing trip, KITT refers to Michael as "Captain Bligh," the real-life British Royal Navy captain best-known for being the victim of the uprising brought to the silver screen in Mutiny on the Bounty.
