I watched this series, and as I often do with such programming, wondered why this kind of presentation wasn't around when I was in school and trying to grasp what, to a non-scientist, are seemingly ethereal concepts. And then it occurred to me...
FIRE hadn't even been invented when I was studying such science, so its no wonder this overview wasn't there!
Notwithstanding, it's never too late as they say, and I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation that was designed to make all these concepts relatable to "dorks-on-the-cusp" like me.
While some of the assertions by a couple of the scientists seem a tad sensationalistic, it is interesting and frankly encouraging to see the realm of study going on in the great "out there". It's also somewhat comforting to know that no matter how badly we as a species screw up, someday, somewhere some hopefully smarter life form will be drinking our recycled atoms in their water, since nature is far more efficient than we are.
Now, as for the space-time stuff; well suffice it to say, that was where I reached that familiar and very uncomfortable Grade 12 feeling of "I am way too stupid to understand this" and the overwhelming feeling of needing a bottle of wine...WITH a straw!
And truly, "fair winds and following seas" to all those who DO have the smarts! We're going to need you; that's really obvious!moreless
