  • Trivia

  • Quotes

    • Kolchak: (opening monologue)
The teenage years: sixteen candles, fervent passions, aimless joyrides and the forbidden taste of beer. A time the world allows for sowing one's wild oats. But for some individuals I came to know in this summer of their discontent it had been a time when they had sown the seeds of their own destruction.

    • Jonas: And you're telling me that I should go into a barn of bones… and… and… and… find someone's skull and then play pin the head on the stump?!?
      Kolchak: Right, right.
Jonas: Is that what you think police do?
Kolchak: I've given up figuring out what police do. All I know is what has to be done!

    • Kolchak: (when Baker's head is lost) In one case the oversight was very small. But it blossomed into a flower of evil.

    • Neil: (to Kolchak) Well, if it isn't the third runner-up in the Spike Jones lookalike contest.

    • Jonas: Fortunately for all of us, Kolchak, you're your own worse enemy.

    • Jonas: Surely some biker has taken it into his head to avenge Baker's death. And he has a costume -!
Kolchak: That is no costume and he certainly hasn't taken it into his head because there IS no head!

    • Kolchak: And you're supposed to be the brightest, the youngest, captain on the force, huh? Well, you're not fit to be captain of the Rockettes!

    • Vincenzo: Boy, you people got a lot of gall, let me tell you. You sit around here collecting your salaries and gassing about guillotines and corpses on motor scooters and stuffing your faces.
      Kolchak: Aha.
Vincenzo: This isn't a functioning newsroom. This is occupational therapy!

    • Kolchak: There is an old, simple axiom about the dead: don't disturb them, not for any reason at all.

    • Jim Backus is listed as "Special Guest Star."

    • Larry Linville played a doctor in the original Night Stalker movie, making him the fourth actor to appear in at least one movie and a TV episode.

    • This was the first script that Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale sold in Hollywood. Zemeckis later went on to win an Academy award for Forrest Gump.

  • Allusions

    • Kolchak: The Hills of Lethe Cemetary...
The cemetary takes its name from Greek mythology. Those who drank from the waters of the river Lethe forgot their past lives entirely.

    • Kolchak: ...this summer of their discontent...
This is a play on the opening soliloqy from Shakespeare's Richard III. The title character's words reveal how his deformities reflect, or perhaps shaped, his deformed mind and spirit.
