Yesterday, I bought the The Night Stalker/The Night Strangler double feature on DVD. This shows Carl's life before Chicago in Las Vegas and Seattle. According to the Dan Curtis interview, when The Night Stalker first showed in theater, the audience went nuts. I highly recommend this DVD for fans of the show.

Living in Seattle, I'm partial to "The Night Strangler." It's fun to spot things in the movie that aren't around anymore. The Pioneer Square area has been spruced up quite a bit since the movie was made, but most of those old buildings are still around. You can take a tour of "Underground Seattle" where the final scenes were filmed.

you know there was a planned third movie planned i think it was called the Night Killers and it picked up right where Night Strangler left. they decided not to do it and started the series. there are new Kolchak stories out now by Moonstone comics they take place after the book Kolchak: Grave Secrets and Grave Secrets took place right after the series ended and he was fired after the last episode

Hopefully, Moonstone's artists made Kolchak resemble Darren McGavin (rather than Stuart Townsend). LOL!

Yeah it looks just like Darren Mcgavin i would post a picture but it doesn't seem to want to let me. I love the Mcgavin Version but the new Night Stalker is pretty good it's a disapointment that both got cancelled before thier time

It's entertaining but nothing groundbreaking typical of other Vampire movies of its time. First half is really boring but it does pick up and as said gives you background about Kolchak. A nice finish as well.

You got that right. Darren McGavin *is* Kolchak!

Excuse me, but it was made for ABC television, so when did it play in theaters? Overseas? I know a somewhat longer version of the Steven Spielberg-directed Duel (also written by Richard Matheson, this time from his own story) from the same network's Movie of the Week run did that, but I've never heard this claimed about Night Stalker before (and I'm old enough that I was in high school when I watched the very first telecast)?
