Cartoon Network (ended 2006)
|Highly intriguing stuff, catfan1. The only thing I can see wrong with it is the timing of the matter. In the KWLS Robby origin as you wrote it, Star and Lightning were ALREADY going after Stan and Ollie as a team. Perhaps the sonic blast that freed Star and Lightning the first time they fought Stan and Ollie as a team could have come from a sonic device in Star's utility collar. Aside from THAT little nit pick, pretty good. Now, I hope you don't mind me drawing some inspiration from your idea. |
Good point and my face is red! I'll make some adjustments to keep it in continuity. Thanks for keeping me honest. :>
Here's one I've put off for too long already.
Names: Andrea Sussman (aka Supergirl) and Kevin Whitney (aka Superboy) Species: Humans (female and male)
Home Universe: KWLS
Abilities/Equipment: Andrea and Kevin are both quick-witted and resourceful children who also happen to be accomplished athletes and actors for their ages (Andrea and Kevin have, much more than once, proven invaulable aids in helping their respective cat and dog, Lightning and Krypto, keep their identities as Supercat and Superdog secret from most humans and frequently assist their pets in other ways [most of the time behind the scenes, but there have been a few adventures that have required them to help out in a more direct manner]). Andrea, however, is the more natural leader of the two and a slightly better actress (though Kevin is better with computers).
Andrea and Kevin also makes occasional use of Lightning's chunk of X-Kryptonite themselves to become Supergirl and Superboy. When Andrea and Kevin are empowered by the X-Kryptonite, they both have all the powers of Superman, but on a reduced scale (they are, individually, as much less powerful than Superman as a non-super-powered nine-to-ten-year-old child would realistically be than a non-super-powered full adult). Of course, due to the fact that their powers come from the effects of the X-Kryptonite, they DO have the benefit of, like Lightning and UNlike Superman and Krypto, being immune to most forms of Kryptonite (except for Kryptonite-Plus, the extra potent variety of Kryptonite created by Lightning and Krypto's arch-enemy Apollo) as well as red sun radiation (though, also like Lightning, heavy gravity and magic still number among their weaknesses [but that's just common sense] and their powers only last for 24 hours at a time).
On top of that, their Supergirl and Superboy costumes have been treated with a special formula that renders them bulletproof, acidproof and highly resistant to temperature extremes. Like Superman, both youths have intergalactic communicators that allow them to understand and speak virtually any spoken language (this allows them to understand what their pets are trying to tell them).
Background: The respective owners of Lightning (aka Supercat) and Krypto (aka Superdog), Andrea and Kevin are two of the very few humans aside from Superman who has been entrusted with their pets' dual identities and despite their frequent concerns for their pets' safety, know full well that what Lightning and Krypto do is very important to a lot of people and animals, not just in Metropolis, but across their world and even beyond THAT.
The two started out assisting Lightning and Krypto behind the scenes almost immediately after Lightning began his career as Supercat, even helping him and Krypto prepare the complex array of tunnels allowing them to enter and exit their homes without being seen AND design the underground complex that Lightning uses to monitor most of Metropolis (though Superman and a visiting Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern did the actual building).
Andrea and Kevin began operating more directly (with super-heroic identities of their own) when a series of freak storms started stirring up trouble all over the city; courtesy of Appollo's remote controlled weather machine. The storms were a bit much for even their super-powered pets AND Superman to handle alone, so Andrea and Kevin made use of Lightning's chunk of X-Kryptonite to give themselves temporary super-powers, and Andrea and Kevin began operating as Supergirl and Superboy respectively. While Supergirl focused her efforts on helping Supercat and Superman minimize the more direct damage done by the storms, Superboy and Superdog looked for the cause to the trouble. Though the mission was difficult, the five heroes ultimately emerged victorious.
Despite Lightning and Krypto's highly vocalized concerns for Andrea and Kevin's safety, the two youths still continue operating as Supergirl and Superboy when the need is obvious. And, on occasions when Andrea and Kevin have a school newspaper assignment where Supercat's (and sometimes Supergirl and Superboy's) help might very well be needed, Andrea often carries the X-Kryptonite that gives her, Kevin and Lightning their powers within very easy reach. In fact, it was this practice that allowed Lightning, her and Kevin to maintain their super-powers during a period when a remote controlled Lexcorp time machine trapped them and Krypto in the prehistoric past for six weeks (though they ultimately returned just two minutes after they left).
Personalities: Both Andrea and Kevin are very loving owners to their respective pets and are extremely supportive of their efforts as Supercat and Superdog despite heavy concerns for their safety. Though they trust their pets' teamwork to be able to handle a lot, and, thus, keep their assistance behind the scenes most of the time, Andrea and Kevin are both strong-willed, courageous and clever youths whose support of their pets' efforts even extends to lending a helping hand in more direct manners as necessary.
Andrea is the somewhat quicker-witted, more natural leader and better thespian of the two (as aforementioned), but Kevin's wits aren't to be sold short either.
In addition to their concerns about the danger level of their pets' line of work, Kevin also has extra worry for Krypto concerning his weight problem. Though he loves his pet very much despite his flaws, he HAS tried to (unsuccessfully) get Krypto to go on a diet more than once out of concern for his dog's personal health. In fact, there are times when Kevin uses the Superboy costume and an exposure to the X-Kryptonite to try to get Krypto of go out for recreational exercise flights (enhancing himself with the X-Kryptonite because he KNOWS full well that he'd need his super-powers to be able to drag Krypto out when he didn't want to go out and wearing his Superboy costume because he prefers not to blow his, Andrea and their pets' cover by using his powers out of costume if he can help it).
Descriptions: Virtually identical to the Kryptoverse Andrea and Kevin except for their Supergirl and Superboy costumes. Both wear pretty much smaller-sized versions of the classic Superman costume, but with reversed colors (red where blue on Superman's and blue where red on Superman's) and also having blue gloves and red Lone Ranger-style masks added to the attire. Also, Andrea wears a blonde wig as Supergirl and Kevin wears a black wig as Superboy.
Not too shabby at that, catfan1. Here's one I'm surprised I didn't think of earlier.Names: Archibald, Griffin and Tuxedo (the KWLS-verse versions of Artie, Griff and Waddles)
Well done, catfan1. Now here's one for the Justice Society of Animals....
Name: Hephesta the Wonder-Griffin
Species: Griffin (female)
Home Universe: KWLS-verse
Abilities/Equipment: Without her enchanted collar (forged by her namesake Hephestus, God of the Forge), Hephesta only possesses the abilities of an ordinary griffin (though that still translates into great physical strength, formidable reflexes, flying ability, razor sharp talons and highly acute eyesight). With her collar, however, she is ageless, her strength, reflexes, flying speed, stamina and senses are heightened ten thousandfold and she possesses the powers to breathe mystical fire and hypnotically compel anybody who looks into her eyes to tell the absolute truth about whatever she asks in addition to the fact that the collar also makes her invulnerable to any physical assault (mental and magical assaults, however, are another story). Her tiara is nearly indestructible and can double as a throwing weapon. In addition to her magically enhanced abilities, however, Hephesta is also, like many trained by the Amazons, a brilliant tactician and an incredibly skilled warrior who has mastered almost every known weapon AND every known form of unarmed combat.
Background: Hephesta started off life on Themiscarya (sp?) when her mother, badly injured in a fight with an evil sorcerer, arrived on the island to lay her egg. Thanks to the Amazons taking pity on the griffin, she was able to live on the island and hatch her egg in peace. Over that time, the elder female griffin came to be as a pet to Queen Hippolyta and her hatchling, likewise, ended up becoming a beloved pet to Hippolyta's young daughter, Diana and the two grew up together. Even when Diana won the right to represent the Amazons in Man's World, the griffin (whose obvious inner fire earned her the name Hephesta) wished to faithfully stay by her mistress's side, so Hippolyta arranged to have Hephesta's namesake forge her an enchanted collar that would give her daughter's pet the abilities to be that much better an aid to Diana in "Man's World". Armed with the powers of this collar combined with her fierce loyalty to Wonder Woman, incredible compassion for the downtroughten and combination of fearlessness and cleverness in battle, Hephesta quickly became one of the "Big Three" animal super-heroes of the KWLS-verse (along with Lightning the Supercat and Star the Batmanx) and a founding member of the Justice Society of Animals, a team she still faithfully sides with and considers all among her dearest friends.
Personality: Hephesta is an incredibly courageous and clever fighter, is completely loyal to her mistress Wonder Woman and is slow to trust strangers (especially male strangers), but she also has a very highly developed sense of honor and is incredibly compassionate toward an innocent in direct or impending danger. Also, once you earn her trust, she can actually be very friendly. She has a very high degree of geniune friendship and hero's/warrior's respect held in her heart for all of her JSAnimals colleagues (especially Star and Lightning), but she IS occasionally put off by Krypto's slacker attitude.
Description: Much like a regular griffin save for the golden crown-like tiara on her head and the silver collar around her neck covered with the symbols of the Greek gods and the attached Wonder Woman emblem tag.
I hope catfan1 doesn't mind me fielding this one and I profusely apologize in advance for any taken offense.
Name: Isis (KWLS-version)
Species: Siamese Cat
Home Universe: KWLS-verse
Abilities: In addition to her lightning quick wits, good strategic skills and reflexes and agility that; while not super-feline; are still rather impressive by normal cat standards, Isis is also expertly trained in the arts of thievery and unarmed combat and is capable of being quite seductive when she wants to be (this is especially apparent when she's around Star). She also has a measure of natural leadership skill, which makes sense considering Isis is in charge of Catwoman's cat gang. She also makes use of various mystic items she and Catwoman have stolen when she KNOWS she'll be pulling something in Metropolis that will probably involve her fighting Lightning and/or Krypto (such as the "Left Eye of Horus" [to give the heroes bad luck], the "Gauntlets of Ra" [to give herself illusion casting powers, super-strength and the ability to shoot powerful heat blasts from her front paws], a headdress of unknown origin that allowed her gravity and weather control powers or [as mentioned in the Empress profile] a "ghost power talisman" [to give herself the powers of invisibility, intangibility and telekinesis]).
Background: The leader of Catwoman's gang of trained thieving cats, Isis first met Star when the latter went undercover and infiltrated her gang to capture her. The disguised Star impressed her quite a bit and she developed a decided fondness for him; one that was mutual and, in both respects, lasted even AFTER she found out about his involvement with Batman. Granted, their strong mutual fondness hasn't kept Star and Isis from clashing on the job time and again, but it HAS made the clashes more flirtatious than hostile a good deal of the time.
The first time Isis faced Star and Lightning as a team was when she was making preparations for a caper in Metropolis with the help of "the Left Eye of Horus", which she used to cause BOTH heroes bad luck. However, once the two feline heroes figured out the source of their bad luck, they intercepted her at the museum just as she was trying to steal the "Right Eye of Horus" (a good luck charm). Lightning's super-speed got him to the "Right Eye" before Isis could reach it OR jinx him again, however. Lightning then gave the gem to Star and, with the two gems cancelling each other out, the two loving enemies were able to face each other on an even playing field, Star only winning after a very rough battle.
However, Isis has returned to plague both heroes and their sidekicks several times, usually with some powerful mystic trinket to help even the odds against the Metropolis-based super-animals. At least twice, however, the heroes bested her with the help of a mystically powered ally (in addition to the incident mentioned in the "Empress" profile, there is also at least one incident with the amateur sorceress Darcee). For all the hassles she gives them, however, she can never really bring herself to go all out against Star and, in fact, has even willingly allied herself with the heroes when she felt Star was in especially serious trouble (such as when Mechanikat's chief agents; Blue Shadow and Artemis; captured Star and Lightning in an ingenious trap and Isis joined forces with Krypto and Robby to track down and rescue the heroic cats or when Apollo assembled the Supercat/Batmanx Revenge Squad) .
Personality: Is much like the Isis of the Kryptoverse, except for being a lot more flirty with Star than her Kryptoverse counterpart is with Ace and she DOES have a subconscious block that prevents her from trying to really hurt Star when they fight (for example, when she was using the Left Eye of Horus, she always made absolutely sure that the bad luck she aimed at Star was only embarrassing and JUST bad enough to allow her to escape; NOT physically harmful to him). She won't back down against him, but she won't go ALL-OUT either (which is why she waited until Robby and Krypto returned before sending in the cat mercenaries she hired to decoy Star and Robby when she went for the Katalian royal jewels; she knew Star and Robby could easily handle the mercenaries as a team, but the mercanaries would still take the heroes long enough to deal with where she [thought she] would have a clear shot at the jewels). Her refusal to really hurt Star ALSO extends to Lightning to a more limited extent (simply because she knows Lightning is a pretty good friend of Star's). In fact, it's because of the fact she doesn't really want to hurt Star that Isis refused to join the Supercat/Batmanx Revenge Squad when she was offered membership and, in fact sided WITH the heroes on this instance.
Description: Actually very near physically identical to the Kryptoverse Isis, save for her golden collar with an Egyptian-style diamond-and-emerald tag (a diamond cat infringed on the front of an emerald pyramid).
