Interesting point, plus the female cat in American tail fievel goes west had a voice like that but she also had a heavy New yorker's accent., probably the reason why some animation studios portray animated female cats the way they do is cause for years women often preferred cats and Men preferred dogs, during the 40 & 50s some women did have dogs but in a lot of shows during that time the dogs they usually had were toy dogs like Chihuahuas and Yorshire terriers, the occasional standard poodle were often associated with rich people. But now the bag is a bit more mixed more women have become interested in dogs of various breeds and some men do like and own cats. The creator of Garfield stated that news papers had a lot of comic strips about dogs but there weren't really any about cats except for Heathcliff.

True, but I think she actually was meant to be sexy, because let's face it, no one's really going to buy a ugly saloon dancer (unless it's a comedy).

Your theory on why cats are associated with all things feminine sounds quite plausible.
