  • Kevin, Krypto, and Ace have to team up to stop a new villain from stealing Metropolis' trees.

    9.8
All of Metropolis' trees are disappearing, and not normally. The roots are gone as well, and it's like they just got up and left. Ace informs Krypto, who's spending time with Kevin in their new treehouse (why doesn't Kevin's dad question how Krypto got up there?), that a new villain, Dogwood, is stealing all of the trees. He's a plant-dog hybrid experiment gone bad, and Krypto and Ace go out to try and catch him and bring the trees back. Ironically, Dogwood was right next to the treehouse, and he sprayed it with a chemical formula that gave it a face, mind, and everything else, turning it into a creature that walks out with Kevin still asleep in the treehouse. Meanwhile, Ace and Krypto find the trees and try to stop them, but have to confront Dogwood first. Kevin wakes up and realizes what's going on, but can't really do much except persuade the trees to side with him and not Dogwood. Then, when Ace gets captured by Dogwood, Kevin has to trick him into letting Ace go by having him sprout flowers, attracting bees from the trees. All of the trees end up back home.

Not much to say about this episode, other than it introduces a new villain that will likely be used in season two again. It should be noted that the episode is aired out of order with Ruffled Feathers, because Kevin clearly already knows Bathound. Plus, it's another episode where Kevin's one of the heroes. 9.8/10moreless

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Kevin: How can you all just stand there?
Tree: We're trees, standing's what we do best.

    • (Krypto and Ace are flying, but suddenly, Krypto hears Kevin crying for help)
      Kevin: HEEEEEEEEEELP!!!
      Krypto: It's Kevin!
      Ace: Go! I'll catch up!
(Krypto flies away. Meanwhile, Kevin is running from Dogwood's trees. The trees almost reached him, but Krypto arrives in time and saves him. He then goes in the air with Kevin on his back)
      Kevin:(smiles) Krypto!
Dogwood:(while he's looking angry at Kevin and Krypto) That dog is getting to be a real thorn in my side. Beam those guys!
(The trees start to throw with chestnuts at them)
      Kevin: Look out!
(Krypto looks behind him and sees the chestnuts coming. He dodges them, but the trees are throwing again. Krypto uses his Heat Vision to destroy the chestnuts. Suddenly, Ace arrives in time too and launches a few parachutes to scare the trees. The trees panic and run. Ace approaches Dogwood)
Ace: End of the road, Dogwood.
Dogwood: I'm warning you, back off. I can make my body sprout in anykind of plant I want. (Dogwood sprouts his body into an apple)
      Ace: Nice try.

    • Ace: We're not out of the woods yet.
Krypto: Did he just make a joke?

  • NOTES (2)

    • Villain(s): Dogwood

    • The dog/plant hybrid is probably a reference to the character Poison Ivy from Batman comics. The Poison Ivy character was developed in 1966 and in addition to being immune to all toxins and sickness she had the ability to control plants. She never had a dog in the comics, however.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Dogwood's character design suspiciously resembles that of Muttley, the villainous dog who appeared in Hanna-Barbera's Wacky Races and Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines among other shows.

    • Character: Kevin's Treehouse
Kevin's treehouse sounded suspiciously like classic actor Jimmy Stewart star of It's a Wonderful Life.
