Goof: When Kyle is left in the hall and the bell goes off, a young woman, who is wearing a faded denim skirt and a green blouse, walks past him. He takes a few steps. When the camera cuts to a medium shot, the same woman walks past Kyle from the same direction she had previously come from.
Goof: When Deichman gives Kyle the drawing of him as a superhero it has been drawn in blue ink, and Deichman is holding a pen with a blue cap. When Kyle tacks it onto his bulletin board it is drawn in black ink.
Goof: When Lori is yelling at Declan in the hall the straps on her green purse go from over her shoulder to falling off around her elbow between shots.
Goof: When Kyle is talking to his lunch mate, the comics change once or twice between the scenes, mostly when he pulls away the notebook and when he places it down.
Goof: When Nicole opens the door to find Tom Foss in front of their house, he is wearing a brown jacket. In the subsequent shots he is not and the jacket is nowhere in sight. He also leaves the house without his jacket.
Kyle: (voice-over) I noticed that everyone knew exactly how to respond to the sound. They knew just where to go and who to be with. I knew if I'd ever been at school before I'd know these things too. But nothing felt familiar here. This place was different, and so was I.
Kyle: (voice-over) Still every day I spent here became a part of my own history, and if I wanted to learn people I knew that part of that meant learning from my own choices, and making new choices… tomorrow.
Kyle: (voice-over) Everywhere I looked I saw people connecting. At first I thought people gathered by how they dressed, but bonds were acknowledged in more subtle ways too. Attitude, skin color, gender. There didn't seem to be any one way to figure out how these groups were formed. I had to wonder… would I find anyone like me in this place?
Lori: It wasn't some friggin' basketball game, Declan. 'Hey man, did you catch that sex we had last weekend? Yeah, man, that sex was awesome, nice offense.'
Declan: Look... I screw up all the time. Maybe it's your turn.
Lori: Sounds fair.
Nicole: Where's Kyle? (finds him next to the car) Someone's excited...
Stephen: Yeah, first day of school, everybody should be.
Lori: (sarcastically) Yippee...
Amanda: Kyle, wait. You don't have to learn everything in one day. School's over for today.
Kyle: Two more seconds. (two seconds pass and the bell rings) Now it's over.
Deichman: People are looking.
Deichman: It's weird.
Kyle: I think weird is good.
Stephen: So, how'd your day go?
Josh: (Without enthusiasm) Awesome.
Lori: I want to transfer.
Amanda: You don't like me, do you?
Kyle: (voice-over) I just learned of every human tragedy, war and disaster, but Amanda presented the most difficult lesson. I could tell which answer would relieve her and which she didn't want to hear.
Kyle: You're my friend.
(about the library)
Kyle: It's like the Fortress of Solitude.
Deichman: More like a good place to nap.
Josh's Friend: (referring to Kyle) He doesn't look like an alien.
Josh: I'm telling you, the stuff I've seen him do... I've got a whole file.
Josh: Now explain this to me. That whole private tutor was such a sweet deal, but you want to go to class with the rest of us?
Kyle: If I don't, I'll be alone.
Lori: You'd be lucky. No vicious back stabbers to deal with.
Josh: And those are her friends.
Lori: Seriously, it's not like you need to go to school. You already know everything.
Kyle: Facts. Maybe some dates. But if I'm stuck with a tutor all day, I'll never learn what I really need to know. (pause as both Tragers look at Kyle expectantly) Why do people do what they do?
Josh: This isn't Kyle's first first day of school, anyways.
Nicole: Well that's true, he just doesn't remember the other ones.
Josh: I meant, he must have gone to school on his home planet.

Kyle: So it's like the Fortress of Solitude?
A reference to the Superman franchise. The Fortress of Solitude is Superman's hideaway where he goes to think.
