Lamp unto My Feet

Show Summary

Lamp Unto My Feet was an early religious program that aired on Sunday mornings from 1948 to 1978. Created by George Crothers, it began as a discussion program featuring dramatic scenes with religious and moral influences performed by such talented actors as Steve McQueen, Warren Beatty, Maureen Stapleton, Kim Hunter and John Cassavetes with leading clergy members talking about the story. Lamp Unto My Feet continued with its religious theme but entered into several different fields showcasing jazz great Thelonius Monk and even comedian Lenny Bruce. Lamp Unto My Feet lasted an unprecedented 30 years and in 1978 was cancelled along with two other CBS shows "Camera Three" and "Look Up and Live" for the news digest program "Sunday Morning".
