Land of the Eagle

Show Summary

Land of the Eagle is a documentary miniseries produced by BBC America. The program examines the ways in which North America was affected by European colonization and the subsequent formation of the United States and Canada. Viewers learn about the decimation of wildlife by eager fur traders, the displacement of thousands of Native Americans, the seizure of vast tracts of lands, and the progressive industrialization of what was once a vast and pristine wilderness. Land of the Eagle places a significant emphasis on indigenous wildlife and the ways in which these populations were affected by the United States' rapid westward expansion. This miniseries leaves viewers in a melancholy mood, sorrowful for the damage done to the once-virgin continent, but simultaneously awed by its persistent beauty and resilience, and by the diverse flora and fauna found within it. Land of the Eagle has been consistently popular with history buffs and nature lovers since it was first aired; it is now available on DVD.moreless
