  • A hilarious revival of Home Improvement

    8.0
Okay so the show may lack a little originality in terms of Tim Allen's character type. But, overall this is an amusing show with some likable characters that a lot of people can relate to. Yes each show does seem to have an "opinion" to present. But that's artistic license and people need to get over it. If you think it's too preachy then stop watching but also stop complaining. Most every show has an "angle" and those that don't are pandering to commercialism. I applaud Tim and his cast for making a cute series that is easy and lighthearted. As a guy who grew up with home improvement this show brings back memories and a sense of comfort. And I think it's great how they try to incorporate the old cast into the show so that those of us who can recognize them get kick out of the parallels that are drawn about the characters. I can't wait for the next season.
  • Too Preachy

    4.0
I'm sick of Disney trying to teach us a lesson. This and Malibu Country have their little theme weeks that go together and try to preach some new conservative lesson to us. That and Tim Allen trying to relive the glory days of Home Improvement (having the guy who played Al return as a mean drunk the second time was not a good idea) make me tune out every Friday night. Guest stars or no guest stars, this ship is going down.
  • WORST EVER

    1.0
nothing is worse than changing the actors.. .. hate it! not watching it anymore! BAD!BAD!

    below, recently added:

editing my preview review now, couldn't stop watching it, was too curious. But as you see my opinion above, it still sticks. The show really went downhill and i agree with @npquovadis in what he wrote!

Amanda Krosney was awesome as Kristin, she was fun, easy going, smart etc.

Amanda Fuller on the other hand i really don't like, first off the part really doesn't suit her or she doesn't act the part very well. And in season they turned this fun amazing character to this "not so easy going" and very feminist character. (spoiler: latest episode, no i don't want to move in with you but you can move in with me) is the stupidest thing ever! either get a place together or just move in with him!

That is just one thing of many! really disappointed!
  • More changes for relief, please!

    1.0
I understand that they accidentally replaced Alexandra Krosney with Amanda Fuller to play Kristen for no reason at all. But I would also replace these other people: Molly Ephraim with another actress to play 18-year-old Mandy, Kaitlin Dever with another actress to play 15-year-old Eve, and Tim Allen with another actor to play Mike Baxter. I know there were unanswered complaints about Molly, Kaitlin is also obnoxious as Alexandra, and Tim should return to the movies rather than turning back the clock returning to the series!
  • From awesome to WTF

    2.5
When we first found this show we were in extreme delight. We knocked out the first season's episodes like they were tic-tacs and moved on to start the second season. Watching the seasons without a break in between made it extremely clear that there was a huge shift in the show. This show is not the same show at all; it seems like a completely new set of writers and producers completely unfamiliar with the first season. The characters are no longer interesting and the plots are generally just annoying. It's just anymore. The first season was a blast. The casting changes are also a HUGE disappointment; not only did they recast the oldest daughter but they also changed huge aspects of her character; she went being one of the best characters (not counting Tim!) to the worst. The episodes now are largely just liberal propaganda. The only episode so far that showed a glimmer of its former self was Dodgeball; then it was clear they saw the great ratings on that and went back to propaganda.

Just go back to having fun.
  • 2nd Season a HUGE disappointment for the iconic Tim Allen

    2.0
Season 1 was everything I hoped it would be staring Tim Allen in a new show. I wanted the Home Improvement replacement show and I finally got it. Then came season 2... What a mess. If the show isn't political its about religion. The every day humor of family is gone and finally after episode 6 of season 2 I am done. The script and cast replacements just aren't funny or working. There was a real shot with this one and I hate to see it go but I just can't watch it anymore.
  • Uncertain now

    8.0
Liked everyone on Last Man Standing last year. Do not hate the new Kristin, just don't like her as much. Hopefully they won't replace Mandy and Eve, who are excellent.

What I do not like is the sudden emphasis on Boyd's father. All he does is disagree with everything Tim says using stock arguments that are without nuance. I personally would not have Boyd's father in my house if he irritated me as much as he obviously irritates Tim. So why does Tim, who is a strong personality, put up with him. If I stop watching the show it will because of the focus on Boyd's father.

The new show manager who decided to change the show dynamics was obviously available because he had driven his last show into the ground. When he got control of LMS he decided his ideas were better than those of everyone else. He was wrong but no one will be able to tell him or convince him. He will kill LMS and get another promotion.
  • JUST END IT!!

    3.5
As far as genric sit-coms go Last Man Standing is at the top of them all. The show is bland, (unfunnily) raunchy, and it lowers brain cells. Now it's not the worst show ever made. But most characters are dull, the plots just rely on lower denominator humor, and the show most of all shouldn't really be worth it.

I know some people like it. But I'm sorry I just can't see it.
  • Hollywood at its worst

    3.0
Season one of Last Man Standing was an enjoyable family sit-com even if

it didn't present a great number of new ideas and rehashed some of the

Tool Time/Tim Taylor vibe. We were looking forward to season two and

then it came and we're reminded of the old adage, be mindful of what

you wish for as you might just get it.

Season two has been an absolute train wreck from the opening scene of

the first episode. The first problem - the decision to replace

Alexandra Krosney with Amanda Fuller as Kristen Baxter might rank as

one of the worst casting decisions ever made by a TV series. Where

Alexandra was very believable as an accidental teenage mother doing her

best to raise her child, remain pleasant and positive with the support

of her family despite her self imposed burdens, Amanda isn't at all.

Not believable, pleasant or positive, and rarely even appears to be

trying, not the character or the actress. She's clearly much older in

not only her appearance but in her manner as well, frequently comes off

as bitter, angry, vengeful and openly resentful and hostile to everyone

but especially her father. Even when the rest of the cast is working

their parts and creating a humorous moment her appearance, as well as

that of her equally caustic and unpleasant baby daddy Ryan(Jordan

Masterson)are like a demolition crew armed with sledgehammers and

chainsaws sent to put an end to it.

Second and perhaps the greater problem is the dramatic shift towards

being radical left propaganda the scripts have taken. Whereas the first

season touched on some political themes in very vague and general ways

and made fun of the left/right caricatures every episode of season two

has been a recitation of the most radical and dishonest talking points

of the left with the "conservative-ish" characters being portrayed as

villains with nothing to say in response or in their own defense.

Some of the propaganda is so over the top it is at the very least

highly irresponsible if not down right dangerous. A good example might

be episode four where a female gold-digger character played by Robin

Riker is deemed to be perfectly reasonable and justified in her

expectation of getting more money from her ex despite having carried

out an act of domestic violence against her then husband that would

likely be classified as attempted homicide were it to occur in real

life. Hearing a laugh track as 76 year old Hector Elizondo's character

Ed describes being stabbed in the chest near his heart is surreal and

the stuff of the most depraved minds in Hollywood.

Although this is now par for the course with everything Hollywood

touches these days and relentless bashing of anything traditional,

American or center-right passes for comedy is the norm, it's very, very

and disappointing to see Tim Allen not only allow this to happen to his

show but his participation in it as well.

We've watched our last episode and suspect this series won't be around

    much longer.
  • Season 2 is a mess

    2.0
I grew up watching Home Improvement. Last Man Standing season 1 gave ways for a softer side of Tim's comedy. The characters works well together in season 1. The fact that season 1 Kristin is a teenage single mom with a full time job works well for the plot. Tim being "the last man standing". New Kristin does not goes well with the show and rest of the cast. Give this show a miss!!
  • Why did you have to mess with a good thing????????????

    1.0
Loved the original comedy and characters. Why did you replace Alexandra (Kristin) with this Amanda chick? She doesn't even look like she fits with the rest of the family and certainly doesn't have the ability to deliver the lines the same way. Also, don't care for the new (Boyd's father) character. I love all the orginal people, but now it isn't the same comedy so I don't think I will continue watching. Sorry, Tim. Always loved your shows and movies until now.
  • Swing and a miss :(

    3.0
So sad!! I LOVED this show last season! I can't stand the new Kristin.. I told myself to give her a chance, but I've watched three episodes now and I still can't stand her. She doesn't fit the role well at all. Definitely miss Kristin #1! Also don't care for the addition of baby-daddy as a common character. Aside from new Kristin's awkwardness and keeping in mind that a lot of conservatives watch this show because it's the only conservative sitcom on TV today.. I think it was a poor choice to shock people by recasting Kristin and then to continue slapping viewers in the face by making every other sentence that comes out of her mouth so blatantly liberal and in support of Obama. I think it did the show a lot of harm.
  • new kirstin ?!

    6.5
The first season was great ,really great but what happened in the second one ? the new kirstin is the worst, does not even fit in with the rest of the family, Boyd is now big somehow and his father is not only present but spends surprisingly much time with his baby-mama`s family, why ? it makes no sense and steals focus from Mike .

    i`d give it a 9 for season 1

    and a 6 for season 2
  • Lucy and the Football

    2.0
LOVED the first season...hated the time slot. Now, I'm loving the new time slot, but finding it really hard to NOT hate the show.

The show was great because of it's balanced approach to actual life and characters. Mike Baxter's alpha-male conservatisim would often play out with a 50-50 win/lose ratio on whatever the situation may be with his wife, daugthers, and co-workers representing all other viewpoints from similar conservatism to moderate to liberal...WITHOUT MAKING IT POLITICAL. Single parenting, new age education, same sex relationships, private property, animal rights, etc. His wife and daughters also presented divergent opinions on everything...they were NOT cookie cutter characters. Even Kyle brought his own occasional worthy efforts. the point was that everyone's position could be taken in view and the good and the bad from all could be highlighted.

Now...Mike is portrayed as a right-wing hack, who must be ridiculed and MUST lose. Kristin is portrayed as "provide everything for me, but bend yourself to my ideals" liberal parasite, but somehow the attempt is to show this in a positive light.

There is none of the struggle of Kristin's character...none of her fight to live her life and raise her son on her terms WHILE still having to deal with the reality of her situation. She was not happy about living at home and raising a son, but was greatful for the help of her family. That dynamic was portrayed as having never been over the first two episodes of season 2...as if new Kristin simply took it all as expected and all others (including Mike) did not bat an eye. She and Boyd advance in age a few years, but are still at home?? No progress whatsoever?

The return of the baby-daddy was pathetic. Completely just dropped the entire Kristin-Kyle sub-plot. Completely disrespectful of Mike, regardless of Mike's antagonizations.

As for the actor changes? There isn't enough toilet paper to cover how craptastic it is.

Message to ABC... FIRE YOUR NEW SHOWRUNNER!!! HIRE THE OLD GUY BACK!!! It probably wouldn't be feasible to get the old Kristin back, but it couldn't hurt. Pull a Patrick Duffy-Dream sequence and get the show back on track. 86 the political crap. That's what it is...crap. Two episodes is enough. We've had two years of this on the news, campaign commercials, it being worked into the plot of every single series on television, it's enough. Right-wing politics, left-wing politics, doesn't matter. STOP. Return to real life, not propaganda.

I LOVED last season. I'll give this one one more episode to overcome the suck. Otherwise, I can easily find something more worthwhile to watch.

  • Season 2, Different but still TIM ALLEN

    10
I love Tim Allen, always have, not a big fan of the changes they made in Season 2, but hey, Tim Allen is here and all I care about, he can make the show funny. Amanda character changed and Boid has grown, but it's ok, they are background supporting characters, Nancy Travis is funny, the other 2 daughters are funny as well.

    Give it a chance.
  • Excellent and hopeful

    10
Tim, loved the political episode...well your part anyway...

    Last episode...priceless...

Question is, can mainstream media undo the mess they have helped propagate the past few decades?

So will they eat fish....or teach/learn how to fish?
  • Sad Day for ABC

    3.0
Lost a lot of respect for ABC when I watched Last Man Standing and saw all their changes for Season 2. The witty teenage mom, played by Alexandra, was fun, sensible, kind, relatable, and endearing. But this new girl is overpowering, negative, not believable as part of the family, too large in statue, and definitely the opposite of the character we all liked. Even her new kid and his dad don't seem a good fit. Plus that strong political message, which is probably why Alexandra was fired, was inappropriate for an entertainment show and totally biased. Shame, shame on you all at ABC for making such stupid calls.

  • am i wrong?

    1.0
but wasn't kristin's son a baby? how come he's a big kid now?

not to mention the actress change... that's just too stupid and i hate it when they do that
  • horrible actor change

    5.0
this show was pretty funny last season, but the change of Kristin was ridiculously bad. Amanda Fuller doesn't deliver the lines in a witty manner, nor does she play the part of teenage mom well at all. sucks

hope the producers of the show reads these reviews and sees what a mistake they made
  • A clever title goes here!

    8.0
I hate it when they change an actor/actress in a show. Don't care what the reasons behind it are...it just sucks. Overall though I thought that it was good. It was funny and I thought that it was entertaining. Looking forward to next weeks.
  • Politically offensive

    1.0
We watch TV to take a break from the stress of everyday life. During this heated political season, it is NOT appropriate to broadcast a show so biased and so full of political misinformation. You made the conservative, the lone standing conservative to look like Archie Bunker, while all the rest of his family repeated all the talking points of the liberal party and his 'neutral' wife cheered for imaginary returns coming in for the liberal. This is usually a good show but this content was totally out in left field, literally.

The Obama bias and assumption that the majority were pro Obama was really stretching it.

And the actress change was horrible. The last season actress was cute, lovable, funny and really fit into the show representing viewpoints we have to deal with today but without leaving us offended. If the show continues in this vein, it deserves the bad ratings it will get. We watch because we love Tim Allen but this show was totally OFFENSIVE.
  • inappropriate

    1.0
This show was very inappropriate. We watch this show for laughs and entertainment to get us a break from all that we are so inundated these days. DON'T want political program. This wasn't even funny. Turned us OFF.

  • Well that was bad

    1.5
I used to like this show and was excited that it was renewed but the Actor change is bad i used to love Alexandra Krosney but its gone down hill now i wished they had cancelled it.
  • Political ads should only be 30 seconds

    1.0
I was extremely disappointed in the season premier. I see enough political ads without it being on the shows I watch for entertainment. I have always enjoyed Tim Allen but I have lost my enthusiasm for him with this lastest episode. A little fun poking about politics is fine but a half hour show devoted to an ad for Obama was a bit too much. I appreciate a good laugh at politicians but not the entire time I am watching a show. I guess he will no longer be the last man standing at our house.
  • Say NO to changing actors.

    1.0
I agree with joewa. Changing actors shouldnt be done. I loved Alexandra Krosney the most out of the three daughters and this change is not something that improved the show. At least I won't know if it changes over time since I'm not planning on watching it anymore. The chemistry that existed before is simply lost.
  • Not The Same Show

    1.0
I was a little disappointed when I heard they were thinking about canceling this show, now I wish they had.

The political rivalry was one thing, I was happy that there was a conservative leaning show, but this looked like they were overcompensating and he was fighting a losing battle against all of his family.

The worst part of the new show had to be the recast of Kristin, she was horrible, I think they were trying to get a stronger single woman role, but what they ended up with was a woman who has a strong opinion of how wrong her father is, but still sees no reason not to live with her father and eat his food and let her dead beat ex eat his food.

I enjoyed the dynamics between the cast, but now even the Eve character who was the perfect child was obnoxious at best.

It was one of my favorite shows, but now I will never watch it, in fact I can't forget about it soon enough.
  • I will miss you Alexandra!

    1.0
After watching tonight, I'm done. Alexandra being replaced by Amanda has ruined the whole feel of the show. She is the most irritating thing ever. They lost their balance, and now this viewer................
  • ABC censorship

    1.0
I don't really care for a liberal like Allen to make fun of Christians or conservatives.

You would think that he would have found God in prison.

No we don't all think Obama is a communist. Just an inexperienced, immature whiner

that blames everything on everyone else. And he is Allen's god.
  • Yeah about that

    8.0
Has consistent laughs but i dont like it when shows recast roles
  • Deserves a second season

    8.0
It's great to see a funny show where the man is NOT always the idiot or the buffoon, where he cares about his family and not everyone on the show is a complete goof.

My entire family enjoys this show, and hopefully, we will next season. A second season will really allow the show and characters to be more developed and shine.
