Though he's absent from this episode, General Montcalm reportedly arrived on the scene when the massacre was taking place and his subsequent actions prevented things from being much worse.

Nitpick: Hawkeye states that he's 40 years old but portrayer Kenneth Ives looks to be considerably younger.

General Louis-Joseph Montcalm was commander of French troops in North America during the French and Indian War. He captured Fort William Henry as depicted in the series but would later die in battle in 1759 when British troops stormed and captured Quebec.

The character of Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce on M*A*S*H took his nickname from the lead character in Last of the Mohicans. According to Hawkeye Pierce, his father nicknamed him that after reading the novel which was supposedly the only book the elder Pierce ever read.
