No, we never found out what was in Compo's Box, the only people who know are the ones who did actually see into it, his son had said after he had passed that the matchbox IS buried with him and NO he won't ever reveal what was inside it, as with Nora Batty who also saw Compo's "Box" she said it was a thing that he'd have to have shown you himself if you wanted to see inside it, everyone who knows what's inside it will never tell and the secret will die with us. Shame that we'll never find out though!!! I reckon personally it just says "Scream!!!" or "Quiver." something that makes them look away in disgust and scream.

In one of the early season episodes it is revealed that he has a slug or catipiller in a matchbox as he is feeding it with a bit of lettuce. Though we will never be exactly sure.
