Controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) is a type of air traffic accident in which nothing is technically wrong with the aircraft and the pilot is in (safe) control of the vehicle; however, an accident happens, e.g. by unintentionally flying into a mountain. In general, the crew of the aircraft is not aware of the danger they are in until it is too late to prevent the accident.

In reporting on Speaker of the House Conrad Buell's suicide, the newsreader said that he killed himself on the floor of the Senate but Buell committed suicide when speaking in the House of Representatives.
