Though Super Bowl 50 saw its teams within a score of each other for much of the contest, the general consensus was that it was a bit of a snooze. That didn't matter to television viewers, as Sunday's CBS telecast of the Denver Broncos defeating the Carolina Panthers was the third-highest TV broadcast in history with 111.9 million viewers.
That figure puts it behind the previous two Super Bowls, with 2015's last-minute contest between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots remaining the most-watched broadcast in history with 114.4 million.
The special post-game edition of Late Show with Stephen Colbert enjoyed its (duh) biggest audience ever with 21.1 million viewers on average, but that number is the second-lowest post-Super Bowl broadcast in over 10 years. CBS's 2013 post-game edition of Elementary drew 20.8 million viewers. The best numbers for an after Super Bowl show belongs to NBC's 1996 airing of Friends after Super Bowl XXX, which was watched by—HOLY CRAP 52.93 millions viewers watched that episode?
Puppy Bowl and Kitten Bowl ratings were not available as of press time.
The after SB shows come on kind of late in the Eastern time zone. I've moved on by then.
What??
WHAT???
Holy cow, that is a lot of viewers. I'm not even sure I can fathom that.
this is my favorite moment. The running back of the Panthers Jonathan Stewart leaping over the pile scoring a touchdown.
I just love the visuals okay.
Oops. This was the moment i knew The Panthers lost the game. The mental blow of this missed opportunity was too much. And the defense of the Broncos was way too good. Rest of the game was pretty dull.
It cost me years before i understood all the rules and got a hold on all the terminology. This year apparently a catch wasn't a catch? There was this moment in the first quarter with a Panthers wide receiver I thought it was a catch. But the referees ruled it an incomplete pass. Apparently It's a new NFL catch rule that requires a receiver to maintain control throughout the process of going to the ground. But here's the kicker (lol) The (incomplete) call stood because the NFL requires "indisputable visual evidence to the contrary" in order to reverse plays upon review. (sigh)
I wasn't aware there was this new rule so i was totally flabbergasted.
I checked the NFL website and it turns outs it wasn't a new rule
but the league "emphasized points on several existing rules"
Got it? I'm not confused :) I totally understand every nuance of this wonderful game. NOT. but it was fun.
My favorites were the weiner dogs dressed up as hot dogs; (for Heinz Ketchup) and the MINI: Defy Labels...but other than that; there were some really strange ones this year. And not for the multi-million dollar companies you'd really expect, either. Quicken Loans? Apartments.com?
Meh.
It wasn't a back and forth type of game, but it was still enjoyable in my book.
