This is not actually about this episode in particular, but a comment on the start of the Laverne episodes. My bro and i called them the "Laverne Only" shows when we first saw 'em, and while it still said "Laverne and Shirley" the Penny Marshall solo would sugget anything BUT. The episodes were choppier and harder to follow, and Rhonda was uneccessary. Old "Shirl" was gone, and Lenny was seen infrequently. The only things that stayed the same were Frank being the restaunrant biz man like always, and Carmine doing some musical gigs here and there. And Squiggy was around to deliver a funny line, but he seemed lonely without Lenny.

While i liked alot of the Hollywood ones and watch them repeatedly, (like the one where Laverne becomes a nun and acts like Quozzie Moto!)to me, the show was already going to pot when they made the switch to Hollywood. I don't think it was just a change of scenary, but a hurried attempt to salvage the feuding real-life cast problems and a loss for story ideas.

I tend to think of the Hollywood ones as almost a different show, the old characters set in a hip, new setting. I like "Laverne and Shirley" for its sillyness, but some of the later silly jokes were to the point of no return, and you could just see the pain in the stars' eyes, reminding us that the lighter hearted Milwaukee days of dating, bowling, and good night kisses were never to be again.
