The plot was predictable, the sister was stupid. The only thing not predictable was the attorney hanging himself in the jail. You didn't care about any of the victims, the story, or why the people that did the deed. I used to love Chris Noth but they brought him back and gave him the worst storylines.
A sickly toddler is the pawn in this "Dollhouse." Logan and Barek carry out a low-key investigation which eventually puts two women in jail. Overall, the episode was a little better than passable, with discreetly effective chemistry between the two investigators.
Strong or interesting moments include Logan revealing that his cousin had asthma, and later devising a fictitious suicide note in the presence of Barek, Carver and a prison warden. At the end, a confrontation with the second suspect puts a fresh touch on the old hidden recorder routine, with Noth putting his trademark smoldering intensity to best use.
Among the nitpicks: setting the episode in January and February when it was obviously filmed in October or November; and the implication that a move to Alaska would threaten the child's life (taking him to the storm-washed, pollution-free southeastern panhandle would be good for his asthmatic lungs). More conflict between the regular characters would be welcome.
Okay, there was a point when I actually accepted Chris Noth's character Mike Logan as a sort-of replacement for Vincent D'Onofrio's Bobby Goren, but this episode is really pushing that acceptance.
Not only did this episode go on FOREVER, but it wasn't even forever in a good way. There was a point when I looked at the clock, excepting it to be nearly over and my obligation thus fulfilled, but nooooo. It was only 9:15. *cue dramatic music typically associated with the telling of a hard life tale*
And that's not all. To be frank, I saw absolutely no connection whatsoever between anything that went on. Now, that might have been due to the fact that I was attempting to fold three loads of laundry at the same time, but that doesn't usually provide interference with my comprehension. I did manage to retain the basic plot of the matter, but that's about it.
In short, either the writers need to be hit over the head to write like they used to, or the show needs to be cancelled to save itself from further embarassment to the Law and Order name.
