A pop star is accused of parental neglect after her son is killed and Benson is out to prevent another tragedy from happening.

Benson and Stabler investigate the singer after her son is struck and killed by a cab. It turns out he was adopted from his biological father and had a falling out with him at his birthday party before he was killed.

Meanwhile, Benson is concerned about the surviving daughter's safety after being befriended by her. Then, it gets twisted. The nanny that the singer is deporting tells the cops that she's a drug user who almost hurting her kids in an accident, and has the money and the power to keep the everything quiet.

Benson does whatever she can to help the girl before dies. But, the pop star becomes furious telling her to back off. And to makes matters worse, she files a lawsuit against Benson and the unit. Benson is at risk of losing her job so she brings in ADA Cabot for support. On the day of the hearing the singer promises to spend more time with her daughter, but threatens Benson for unemployment if she goes near her daughter again. The next day, Benson is disgusted when the singer performed at a sold-out concert in London.

This episode showed how strong Benson is with that case because she cares. But that actress who played a bitchy, cocky, arrogant singer did a good job being crazy. It goes to show you that celebrities have the power to get away with scandal and they don't care. Selfish.moreless
  • What I would've said and the mother's fate.

    8.0
If I were on the show, I would've said something similar to the mother. I'd get in her face and say "Listen lady, you think you can just pay nannies off to look the other way? Well I don't care how famous you are, either you start paying more attention to your daughter, or your entire singing career will be I wonder what happened to the mother for going against the rules of the court the day after she got custody?moreless
  • Fans of Olivia will enjoy this episode.

    10
I absolutely love Mariska Hargitay, and episodes like this make me proud to be a fan of hers. When a little boy is run over by a car, his famous parents claim he was running away from a child molester. However, when that theory is debunked, Elliot and Olivia become very concerned about the little girl still living in the household, being raised by nannies and absentee parents more concerned with fame than their responsibilities. In the end, even though there is nothing they can do, Olivia refuses to give up. I just wanted to slap the little girl's mother for the way she treated her daughter and Olivia. This episode really pulled at the heartstrings, and it was difficult to see Olivia struggling to deal with the situation all alone. Only Elliot saw her clearly and understood just why she cared so much. The ending was unsettling yet powerful. This was a fantastic episode and a don't miss for avid Olivia fans.moreless
  • Are the kids being abused, or is something else going on?

    8.5
There appears to be some abuse taking place in the home of a couple of pop stars. The little girl gets attached to Olivia. After investigation all the adults are cleared and they find the girl actually hurts herself to get attention.

Olivia tries her best to help the kid, but their parents are rich celebrities who pay people off to look the other way.

A young Hayden Panettiere plays the little girl and does an excellent job alternating between adorable innocent and disturbed obsessive kid.

  • Excellent episode.

    10
This is one of my favorite episode. The initial investigation of the episode is finished early on. But, what happened next was nail-biting entertainment. I felt really badly for Olivia and the little girl. And, just when I thought the parents were really going to try at the end, the mother goes and plays a sold out concert the very night she wins custody back. My jaw hit the ground.

Olivia Benson: Captain, I can explain.
Don Cragen: You can't follow my orders on the street, you try keepin' my files straight.
      Elliot Stabler: Captain?
Don Cragen: (to his other detectives) And in case anyone else here has Detective Benson's hearing problem, read my lips or buy the Cliff notes: No one is to go near Ashley Black again. That includes her family, school, house, and any employees therein.
Olivia Benson: You can't do this. Somebody's gotta help her.
Don Cragen: Really? Well, thanks to you, now none of us can!
(He tosses a restraining order notice on Stabler's desk.)

    • Olivia Benson: Who, Ashley? What happened? Is she okay?

      Ricki Austin: Leave us alone!
Olivia Benson: Ricki, your daughter needs help.
Ricki Austin: Get away before I call the police.
Olivia Benson: Miss Austin, I am the police!
Ricki Austin: Then it's damn lucky I have my own security!

    • Elliot Stabler: There's nothing we can do. She's not abused. She's not neglected.
